Larvitar

Larvitar (Japanese: ヨーギラス, HepburnYoogirasu) (LAR-vuh-tar[1]) is a Rock/Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

Biology

Physiology

Larvitar is a small, olive green reptilian Pokémon with rock-hard skin. It has small, chubby arms and legs. It has a blunt spike protruding from its head. Its body is covered in a green armour with few diamond-shaped holes on it. It has a red diamond-shaped chest plate, unlike its evolutions. Its eyes have a black pupil with red iris and black markings around it. Its tail is conical in shape.

Behavior

Larvitar usually feeds on soil, and even entire mountains, in order to evolve and grow into a healthy Pupitar.

Evolution

Larvitar evolves into Pupitar when it reaches level 30, and then evolves into Tyranitar at level 55.

    Ash Larvitar
    Ash Larvitar Egg

In the Johto region, Ash was given a lost egg and was tasked with giving it to Professor Elm. He and Brock raised the egg which later hatched into a Larvitar. In Mother of All Battle, Ash and friends reached Mt. Silver where Larvitar's mother had given birth to it. They later spotted a Tyranitar, who turned out to be Larvitar's mother, that was being attacked by the Poacher Brothers. Once the Pokémon was saved, it was the proper time to hand Larvitar back to his mother. With that, Ash and his friends moved on.

    Trivia

    • Larvitar, along with Numel, are the only Pokémon that has all its abilities changed when it evolves.

    Origin

Larvitar appears to be based on baby dinosaurs and possibly bug larvae.

    Etymology

Larvitar comes from larva (the juvenile form of most animals).
