Eldegoss

Eldegoss (Japanese: ワタシラガ, HepburnWatashiraga) (EL-duh-gahs[1]) is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VIII. It is the evolved form of Gossifleur.

Biology

Physiology

Eldegoss is a Pokémon that has a light green head with amber-brownish eyes with darker green triangles above both said eyes. It also has pupils the same color as its face and a black mouth. Eldegoss's lower body consists of a yellow upper part that resembles a cloak, and a darker green lower part that resembles a dress. Above its head is a green crest that fills a notch in its head and connects the cotton atop Eldegoss to its head. There are also brown seeds that can be found scattered on the top of its cotton.

Behavior

Eldegoss disperse the seeds they produce into the wind to help improve soil and give nutrients to other Pokémon.

Eldegoss also shed quite infrequently. As long as they have fresh water and air, they are quite easy to raise due to their easygoing natures and ability to photosynthesize all of the energy they need.

Natural abilities

The thickly covered fluff on their bodies can serve as a cushion to buffer any damage that may cause injuries to their heads. Said fluff is also spun into yarn, which is considered a specialty in the Galar region. The seeds attached to Eldegoss's cotton fluff contains nutrients essential to both humans and Pokémon.

    Trivia

    • Whimsicott is also based on cotton, however it is more fairy-like.

    Origin

Eldegoss may be based on a gossypium flower and a fully bloomed cotton plant. It may also be based on an elder as its leaves act as a cloak and its cotton may represent the white/grey hair of elderly people. It also appears similar to the pollen or seedpods of some plants.

    Etymology

Eldegoss comes from elder, gossypium (the plant genus cotton in found in), and gossamer (something light and flimsy).

Its Japanese name, Watashiraga, comes from wata (cotton) and shiraga (white hair).
