Trivia

  • Mesagoza, the main settlement in the region, has a name that sounds similar to Zaragoza, an important city in Spain. The academy the player attends also bears a slight resemblance to the Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, a famous church in the city. However, its slimmer spires visually echo the Sagrada Família, another church in the city of Barcelona.
  • Paldea is the first region since Kalos to have both Gym Leaders and an Elite Four; Alola had no Gym Leaders, Galar had no Elite Four, and Hisui had neither.
  • Paldea is the first region to not have routes and route numbers; instead, they're known as Areas.
  • Paldea is the first region to be open world.
  • The Gyms in Paldea can be challenged in any order for the first time, but the Gym Leaders' Pokémon levels do not scale to suit the challenger.
  • Paldea is the first region to have version exclusive Pokémon professors. They are also the first Pokémon professors to be the main antagonists of each game.
  • Grusha's Gym in the Glaseado Mountains is the first Pokémon Gym since Blaine's in Generation II to not be in a town or a city.
