Effect

In battle

Though a Normal-type move naturally, Hidden Power's type can change depending on the user's IVs. Hidden Power does damage to the target. In a Double Battle, Hidden Power can target any Pokémon around the user. In a Triple Battle, Hidden Power can only target a Pokémon that's adjacent to the user.

There is a special algorithm for determining Hidden Power's type. However, there is no in-game way to know the type of the attack, and NPCs typically refuse to tell the type. The type of the attack is determined by taking the two least significant bits (the eighth number of each set) of the Pokémon's Attack and Defense IVs, then concatenating them in the same order.

Trivia

  • Despite being a Normal type move, it cannot deal Normal type damage.
  • Because Hidden Power was introduced before the introduction of the Fairy type, it is never Fairy type since the method of finding the type has not changed since Generation III.
