Xurkitree

Xurkitree (Japanese: デンジュモク, HepburnDenjumoku) (ZURK-ih-tree[1]), code-named UB-03 Lighting (Japanese: UB03 Lightning), is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VII. It is an Ultra Beast, one of the several species of Pokémon native to Ultra Space.

Biology

Physiology

Xurkitree is a tall, enormous, humanoid, android-like Ultra Beast seemingly made of electrical wires and robotic parts. Its hands are made out of copper wiring, and it has feet that look like electrical plugs. Its head resembles a spiky lamp or treetop of some sort. Xurkitree also has a tail that extremely resembles an ordinary household electrical plug, like its hand-like appendages. Its white "leaves" highly resemble zip-ties, used to hold various cables and cords together.

Behavior

Xurkitree, like its fellow Ultra Beasts, is extremely destructive, malevolent, and evil in nature. Xurkitree has also been known to anchor its limbs on the ground, imitating a tree in order to absorb electricity.

Natural abilities

Xurkitree possesses an internal organ that generates high amounts of electrical energy. It can release those energies in high amounts, reaching up to 1,000,000 volts.

Evolution

Xurkitree doesn't evolve.

Pokédex entries

  • Sun

One of the mysterious life-forms known as Ultra Beasts. Astonishing electric shocks emanate from its entire body, according to witnesses.

  • Moon

It appeared from the Ultra Wormhole. It raided a power plant, so people think it energizes itself with electricity.

  • Ultra Sun

Although it's alien to this world and a danger here, it's apparently a common organism in the world where it normally lives.

  • Ultra Moon

They've been dubbed Ultra Beasts. Some of them stand unmoving, like trees, with their arms and legs stuck into the ground.

    Trivia

    • Xurkitree and Poipole are the only single-typed Ultra Beasts.
    • Xurkitree, along with Xatu and Xerneas, is one of only three Pokémon whose name starts with "X".
    • Its attack animation consists of it planting all five of its limbs on the ground, thus resembling a plant of some sort. However, it normally walks on only two.
    • Xurkitree is the tallest Electric-type Pokémon.
      • It also has the highest base Special Attack stat of all Electric-type Pokémon.
      • Because of the vast difference between its Attack (89) and Special Attack (173), Beast Boost will always boost Xurkitree's Special Attack no matter how its stats are augmented, since its maximum Attack (304) cannot surpass its minimum Special Attack (315).
    • The existence of massive, wire-like vines around the homeworld of Xurkitree may imply that this Pokemon has the potential to grow to absolutely massive sizes in its natural habitat, and would therefore possibly be the biggest Pokemon ever shown in the series.

    Origin

Xurkitree seems to be based on tangled electrical wires, cords, and a bulb, as well as a neuron. It also shares similarities to a tree, especially a the wiring of a Christmas Tree, as its body resembles Christmas lights, with zip-ties, and its head resemble a tree topper, often depicted as a star.

With the theory that the original seven Ultra Beasts are based on the Seven Deadly Sins, Xurkitree may be based on the Sin of Greed, as it is sometimes found invading the human world, inserting its electrical plugs into the ground to to sap all of the power from electrical plants simply to generate itself.

Additionally, it is also possible it could be the Sin of Sloth, as it is seemingly sedentary at all times in its home world, likely only being active in the main world because electricity isn't innately in the planet's crust for it to siphon.

    Etymology

Xurkitree is a corruption of "circuitry" that incorporates "tree."

Denjumoku is a portmanteau of 電磁 (denji, electromagnetism) and 樹木 (jumoku, tree).
