Cranidos

Cranidos (Japanese: ズガイドス, HepburnZugaidosu) (CRANE-nee-dose[1]) is a Rock-type Pokémon and a Fossil Pokémon, revived from the Skull Fossil.

Biology

Physiology

Cranidos is a short, bipedal, dinosaur-like Pokémon. It is very similar to the real life Pachycephalosaurus, having long hind limbs and short forelimbs, and also having an extremely thick skull roof. The front of Cranidos' body is largely gray, while it's back and the top of its head are blue. From the sides to the back of its head are four large spikes. Cranidos' most notable feature though, is the large blue dome that is its head that it can use to smash down rocks or trees.

Its shiny version has its blue dome and back changed to red.

Behavior

They dwelled in ancient tropical jungles about 100,000,000 years ago. Their skulls are as hard as steel; as they travel through forests, they simply headbutt trees in their way rather than going around them; fossilized trunks are plentiful in rock layers where Skull Fossils are found. Cranidos also tackle prey headfirst to take them down. They are omnivorous—when not hunting, they can often be found eating ferns and other low-growing plants. They also forage the Berries knocked out of the trees and shrubs they destroy while charging. Cranidos live in herds of 15 to 20 members, consisting both of Cranidos and their evolution Rampardos. While not the smartest Pokémon these herds find strength in numbers, using their heads to fend off attackers like Aerodactyl from all directions. While able to attain high speeds, Cranidos require lots of room in order to accelerate properly. In cramped areas, they become vulnerable due to their inability to headbutt at full speed. Cranidos likely went extinct due to an extended glacial period that killed off most of the plants that made up over half of their diets.

Special abilities

Roark Cranidos Focus Energy

Cranidos is one of three Pokémon to have the ability Mold Breaker. This ability allows Cranidos's moves to strike through any opposing abilities. Cranidos also have incredible leg strength, allowing it to move at great speeds so as to hit its opponent. Cranidos's dome-like head is noted as being as hard as iron, making it capable of even breaking through rock.

Evolution

Cranidos evolves into Rampardos, once it reaches level 30.

    CranidosVs.Pikachu

Cranidos has had a large role as Gym Leader Roark's key Pokémon. He used it in a battle against Paul in Shapes of Things to Come, and against Ash in A Gruff Act to Follow.

During a battle with Team Rocket, in Wild in the Streets!, Roark's Cranidos evolved into a Rampardos.

    Trivia
