Amaura

Amaura (Japanese: アマルス, HepburnAmarusu) (ah-MORE-uh[1]) is a Rock-Ice-type Fossil Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. It can be revived from the Sail Fossil. It is Tyrunt's counterpart.

Biology

Physiology

Amaura concept art

Amaura is a small, dinosaur-like Pokémon with a pink-tipped membrane on the top of its small head. Its skin is light blue in color and its stomach has a white diamond shape on the underside. This blue-eyed Pokémon has a long neck with a blue gem on either side of its body. It was restored from a frozen fragment.

Behavior

In the ancient world Amaura's cold habitat kept predators such as Tyranitar at bay. They are very docile creatures that generally prefer living in packs and away from other Pokémon.

Despite successful resurrection from their frozen fossils, Amaura struggle to live in the modern era's heat. Hence, most scientists and researchers deduce that Amaura that are born in the modern world have shorter lifespans than those from 100,00 years ago.

Natural abilities

When an Amaura howls at the sky, it is said to be able to summon auroras that illuminate the nights.

Evolution

In order to obtain Amaura, it must be resurrected from the Sail Fossil. Amaura evolves into Aurorus from level 39 onwards during night time.

Thaddeus' Amaura

In the Pokémon movie "Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel", there is an Amaura living on the plateau that Ash and the others save from a Pokémon hunter.

Trivia

Origin

Amaura resembles a sauropod dinosaur, possibly Amargasaurus due to it being speculated it had frills. Its frills also resemble auroras and may reference the aurora borealis (referencing its Ice type on how Aurora Borealis often appears in snowy biomes).

Etymology

Amaura comes from Amargasaurus and aurora.
