Dwebble

Dwebble (Japanese: イシズマイ, HepburnIshizumai) (DWEHB-bul[1]) is a Bug/Rock-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

Biology

Physiology

Dwebble is a small hermit crab-like Pokémon. Its body is orange, and it carries a gray rocky shell on its back. It has a round head, long eye stalks with round black eyes, and a small mouth. It has a set of four claw-like legs, with large sharp claws on its front legs.

Dwebble is able to come out of its rocky shell, and repair it if it becomes damaged.

Behavior

Dwebble often look for solid rocks if they do not already own one as a shell. Once they find a suitable rock, they begin to spit corrosive liquid onto them or dig holes in them to make into their shell. This habit sometimes leads to them attacking Roggenrola or Rolycoly, attempting to make them into its shell. If they are unable to find a suitable home, they may take refuge inside of the ports on Hippowdon where they help dislodge stuck rocks.

Evolution

Dwebble evolves into Crustle at level 34.

Cilan Dwebble

A Dwebble appeared in "A Home for Dwebble!" making its own home from a rock due to Pikachu and Axew's curiosity when it doesn't have its own rock yet. It was later caught by Cilan due to his worries for his Pansage. In Crisis of the Chargestone Cave!, Dwebble becomes desperate not being gusted from Jessie's Woobat causing it to evolve into a Crustle and teams up with Ash's Pikachu to defeat Team Rocket's Pokémon. It's Rock Wrecker appears more powerful than Burgh's when it was unleashed or during activation of its Shell Smash.

Burgh, the Castelia City Gym Leader uses his Dwebble in the first battle in "Battling for the Love of Bug-Types!". The color of its rock looks different than Cilan's Dwebble. Burgh's Dwebble managed to defeat Ash's Tepig with a close range Rock Wrecker but, it was later defeated by Ash's newly caught Sewaddle.

Trivia

  • No other Pokémon has the same egg group combination as Dwebble and its evolution Crustle.

Origin

Dwebble appears to be based off a hermit crab using a stone rather than sea shell.

Etymology

Dwebble may come from dwell, dwelling (a home or common place someone resides), and pebble.

Its Japanese name, Ishizumai, comes from ishi (stone) and sumai (house).
