Chi-Yu (Japanese: イーユイ, Hepburn: Iiyui) (CHEE-yoo[1]) is a Dark/Fire-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation IX. It is one of the members of the Ruinous Quartet.
Biology
Physiology
Chi-Yu is an aquatic Pokémon resembling a goldfish. Its large, boulbous fish-like eyes (with white sclera and black pupils) are encircled by curved beads, each of which resemble a fish, circling a black orb coated by white around the sides. Chi-Yu's body is rather plump, with large visible crecentic reddish-orange markings on its sides that resemble scales. It has flaming red and orange fins, one dorsal, and two side fins, all of which fan out like burning flares and resemble flames. Its body is comprised entirely of fire, going up to 5,400°F (the equivalent of 3,000°C and the equivalent of 5,400°K), which visibly flickers and glows inside its translucent body; this fire is hot enough to melt rock and sand and create lava. When excited or attacking, its eyes, eye-beads, and fins, blaze bright and white-hot.
Behavior
Chi-Yu has a passionate and fiery nature, as well as being very vengeful toward greedy individuals, like the rest of its Ruinous kin. It is able to swim through blazing lava and magma, melt rock and sand with the temperature of the fire/plasma comprising its body, and can control this fire at will. It is comfortable and casual as it swims through streams of molten lava. When angered or excited, its body, especially the edges of its fins, and its eyes, visibly blaze white-hot.
As seen in Scarlet and Violet, once it is caught and trained, it becomes loyal and friendly toward its trainer.
Natural abilities
Chi-Yu and the other Treasures of Ruin are the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Ruination.
Evolution
Chi-Yu does not evolve.

Trivia
- This Pokémon shares the title of "Ruinous Pokémon" with 3 other Pokémon:
- Chi-Yu is the only Fire type Pokémon with fins.
Origin
Chi-Yu resembles, and is seemingly based on, a celestial eye goldfish. This species of fish shares the large eyes and orange body of Chi-Yu, and also originates in China, which is where Chi-Yu gets its name from.
Regarding its mythical symbolic qualities with the wicked king, Chi-Yu represents the envy felt by the people under his tyranny. With it being born of jewels and hence items of luxury, such articles imply decadence and greed by the king, who would rather spend the state's money on himself than his own people and their welfare, which then brings about resentment and outrage for such luxuriant and unnecessary expenditures.
In consideration of being associated with the Treasures of Ruin quartet, whom are based upon the Chinese beasts of Four Perils or the Si Xiong, Chi-Yu appears to relate with the beast Hundun (渾敦/渾沌), who is said to be associated with the impropriety of chaos; Hundun is a creature said to throw itself into a rage for no apparent rational reason, dances about in abandon, and aligns itself with evil.
Etymology
Chi-Yu's English and Japanese name most likely come from these two words: jìyú (鯽魚/鲫鱼) meaning "goldfish," and yú (玉) meaning "jade." The English name uses the Wade-Giles romanization system.
Its name is also similar to Chiyou, the half-bull deity king and progenitor of metal weapons who lead barbarian tribes against those aligned with the Yellow Emperor, the ancestor of the Han Chinese.
