Munkidori

Munkidori (Japanese: マシマシラ, HepburnMashimashira) is a Poison/Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation IX. It is revered as a "Hero of Kitakami", alongside Okidogi and Fezandipiti.

Biology

Physiology

Munkidori is a primarily black and white Pokémon with a toxic chain around its head. It has apparently been enhanced by its chain. Otherwise, he has a relatively tube shaped body, with a bulbous head and has a slightly hunched physique.

Behavior

Munkidori is shown to be lazy, rude, and apathetic. It takes the time to bully Ogerpon alongside the other members of the "loyal" three. It's also said that it likes to toy with its enemies before beating them.

Natural Abilities

Most, if not all, of these abilities are caused by the toxic chain. It has been observed to have enhanced brainpower and poison its enemies via attack.

Evolution

Munkidori cannot evolve.

    Trivia

    • It is one of the few Pokémon based on tailless primates. Others include Primeape, Annihilape, the Darmanitan evolutionary family, and Rillaboom.
    • Before meeting Pecharunt, Munkidori used to be an unknown clumsy and dim-witted Pokémon, most likely based on a monkey.
    • Munkidori is the third Pokémon with Poison/Psychic type combination, with first and second being Galarian Slowbro and Galarian Slowking, respectively.
      • He's the first Poison/Psychic type Pokémon without being in the regional form in his debut.

    Origin

Munkidori, along with Ogerpon, Okidogi, Fezandipiti, and Pecharunt, are based on the creatures of the Japanese folktale; Momotarō. Munkidori specifically represents the monkey of the folktale. Munkidori also resembles a Japanese macaque, specifically the ones residing in the Aomori Prefecture. This is reflected with its Shiny form, which gives it a slight tanned fur coat.

Its regular coloration resembles a chimpanzee. The chain around on its forehead resembles a headband.

    Etymology

Munkidori is derived from "monkey" and "hunky-dory", with the spelling altered to make it feel more Japanese-like.
