Vanilluxe

Vanilluxe (Japanese: バイバニラ, HepburnBaibanira) (vuh-NIHL-lux[1]) is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

Biology

Physiology

Vanilluxe is a large icy, two-headed Pokémon that resembles a double-scoop ice cream sundae or a banana split. Most of its upper body is covered in a pure white snowy substance that resembles swirled scoops of vanilla ice cream. Each head has two ovular eyes with purplish pupils and a dark purple grinning mouth. It has many diamond-shaped icy blue crystals covering its upper body, located on the side of each of its eyes and two beneath each mouth. It has two short triangular arm-like ice crystals on either side of its midsection, and three conical icicles beneath its body. The icicle in the middle of its lower body is the largest of the three. Vanilluxe has a hollow straw-like appendage on top of its left head from which it emits puffs of freezing air. On the back of its two heads are many tiny blue ice crystals that form a pattern.

Behavior

This Pokémon consume large quantities of water, which they store inside their bodies and create internal snow clouds. When angered, they will spew out the snow clouds and blast violent blizzards at their opponents.

Unlike their pre-evolutions, Vanilluxe appear to be more unstable and moody, despite the grins on their faces, often having infighting between the 2 heads. In fact, when their anger reaches a breaking point, they will mercilessly blast out powerful blizzards regardless of them hitting either friend or foe.

Natural abilities

By consuming mass quantities of water, Vanilluxe can create fierce blizzards inside their bodies. Their ability to create ice anywhere makes them popular with skiers and snowboarders.

Evolution

Vanilluxe is the final evolution of Vanillite and evolves from Vanillish at level 47.

Trivia

  • Its straw-like appendage has a large plume of snowstorm clouds streaming out from within it.
  • Vanilluxe and its evolutionary line are one of the first Pokémon designed by a Westerner, being created by James Turner.
  • Much like Duosion, it has 2 brains, which must cooperate to use full powered ice attacks.
  • Vanilluxe is said to be the result of 2 Vanillish fusing, much like Weezing, but evolve from a single Pokémon. A Pokédex entry even states that it can lose a head and still be okay.

Origin

Vanilluxe is likely based on a large double-scoop ice cream sundae, or a banana split, as its midsection appears to be bowl shaped. Its appendage that release snowstorm clouds resemble wafer straws. James Turner, the designer of the Vanillite evolutionary line, has stated that Vanilluxe was based on anthropomorphic food mascots and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from the movie Ghostbusters.

Etymology

Vanilluxe comes from vanilla and deluxe.

Baibanira comes from bi (a prefix meaning "two"), 倍 (bai, double), and vanilla.
