Sinistea

Sinistea (Japanese: ヤバチャ, HepburnYabacha) (SIH-nis-tee[1]) is a ghost-type introduced in Generation VIII. It evolves into Polteageist.

Biology

Physiology

Sinistea resembles a living teacup with a face-like pattern. Its body is purple with a yellow swirly pattern. Its hand grips a white glass piece, taking on the appearance of a cup handle.

Both the phony and the antique forms are nearly identical; the only difference between the two is that the antique cup has a mark on the bottom, whereas the phony does not.

Behavior

Sineastea were said to be created when a lonely spirit possessed a cold cup of tea. The tea does not taste good, as it tries to make people drink it, only to be spat out almost immediately. Spinning the swirl on its head makes it dizzy.

Evolution

Phony Form Sinistea evolves into Phony Form Polteageist using a Cracked Pot, while Antique Form Sinistea evolves into Antique Form Polteageist using a Chipped Pot.

  • Sword

Phony: This Pokémon is said to have been born when a lonely spirit possessed a cold, leftover cup of tea.

  • Shield

Phony: The teacup in which this Pokémon makes its home is a famous piece of antique tableware. Many forgeries are in circulation.
Antique: It absorbs the life-force of those who drink it. It waits patiently, but opportunities are fleeting. It tastes so bad that it gets spat out immediately.

  • Scarlet

Phony: The soul of someone who died alone possessed some leftover tea. This Pokémon appears in hotels and houses.
Antique: Some fanatics will go to great pains to prepare the perfect tea and teacup, eagerly waiting for a Sinistea to come and possess their selections.

  • Violet

Phony: Sinistea gets into your body when you drink it, and then it steals your vitality from within. It also tastes awful.
Antique: This Sinistea lives in an antique teacup. As valuable as this Pokémon is, its awful taste remains unchanged.

    Trivia

    • Despite its category, it is purple in appearance. This may be due to the fact that black tea isn't literally black.

    Origin

Sinistea's design is based on a teacup filled with black tea. It may also be based on the stereotypical action of ghosts lifting objects to make it seem as though they are floating. It may also be based on a poltergeist, a type of ghost that possesses objects. It also may be based on a tsukumogami, objects in Japanese folklore that gain a spirit, with Sinistea being a cup literally "filled" with spirit.

    Etymology

Sinistea is a combination of "sinister" and "tea".

Its Japanese name, Yabacha, comes from yabai (dangerous) and cha (tea).
