Fraxure

Fraxure (Japanese: オノンド, HepburnOnondo) (FRAK-shur[1]) is a Dragon-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

Biology

Physiology

Fraxure is a bipedal reptilian Pokémon with dinosaur and draconian traits. Its sturdy, thickset body is composed of green and gray armor-like scales. It has long, sharp gray tusks with red tips protruding from either side of is mouth. Its mouth is beak-like, similar to that of a turtle. Its round eyes are scarlet red and the top of its head is green, tipped with a small spike. It has red claws on both its hands and feet, a long pointed tail with a red tip, and red specks on its gray belly.

Behavior

Since Fraxure's tusks do not grow back when broken, this Pokémon diligently sharpens its tusks on river rocks after a fight. Fraxure are very territorial and can become particularly violent when protecting their territory from other Fraxure, a fight between two Fraxure over land can be very gruesome, as neither will back down until the other is either maimed or without a tusk.

These Pokémon will become anxious if they are not able to sharpen their tusks; they sometimes will even forgot searching for food in favor of looking for suitable stones to whet their tusks on. If one tusk breaks off in combat, the Fraxure will be rendered handicapped, not only in battle but in simple movement, as the tusks also provides these Pokèmon with balance.

Evolutions

Fraxure is the evolved form of Axew as of level 38. Fraxure evolves into Haxorus at level 48.

Iris Fraxure

Iris' Axew evolved into a Fraxure sometime before retiring to Unova with his Trainer before becoming his final evolution.

Fraxure made its debut in "Dreams by the Yard Full" in Axew's dream.

Also seen in a flashback in "The Lonely Deino!" while running from a Druddigon.

Trivia

  • Fraxure represents December on the Unova Horoscope.
  • Fraxure's design was reversed engineered from Haxorus due to the latter being designed very early on in Pokémon Black and White's development.

Origin

Fraxure mainly possesses traits of dinosaurs and dragons, most heavily resembling the Dicynodonts, tusked, mammal-like reptiles who lived in ancient times. Axew is considered to be based on the small Diictodon. Axew's head crest resembles those used by hadrosaurids, and possibly a basilisk. The shape of its tusks also resemble the blades of a pickaxe.

Etymology

Fraxure comes from fracture (to break) and axe.
