Cetitan (Japanese: ハルクジラ, Hepburn: Harukujira) (sih-TYE-tun[1]) is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.
Biology
Physiology
Cetitan is a white whale-like Pokémon. It has a spherical body with five horns protruding from it, two of which are on the top of its head and three of which come from the front of its face. The three protruding from its face are split into a single white horn on its upper jaw and two gray ones on its lower jaw. Its lower jaw is also gray with a white dot pattern that covers its stomach. It has pink highlights that appear around its eyes, fins, and fluke-like tail. It also has two-toed feet.
Behavior
Due to their large bodies, Cetitan require strong muscles to move themselves around. They also use these muscles to dish out hard-hitting physical attacks. Cetitan also require thick blubber, as they often migrate around Paldea's snowy regions.
To keep up with their sizes, they eat a lot of snow and ice to fuel themselves and eat much more than a Cetoddle pod could in one day. When rival Cetitan encounter one another in the wild, the individual with the smaller horns will yield to the one with the larger ones.
They are avoided by other large Pokémon due to their might, like Avalugg for example. But despite this, they are quite the gentle giants and act like parents to young Cetoddle.
Natural Abilities
The white horns on their upper jaws are capable of collecting ice energy, which can turn the surrounding environment freezing cold.
Evolution
Cetitan evolves from Cetoddle by use of an Ice Stone.

Pokédex entries
- Scarlet
This Pokémon wanders around snowy, icy areas. It protects its body with powerful muscles and a thick layer of fat under its skin.
- Violet
Ice energy builds up in the horn on its upper jaw, causing the horn to reach cryogenic temperatures that freeze its surroundings.

Trivia
- Yusuke Kozaki revealed himself to be the designer of both Cetoddle and Cetitan, as well as Varoom and Revavroom.[2]
- Cetitan's HP stat equals to that of Wailord, another Pokémon inspired by baleen whales.
- Cetitan currently has the longest cry of any Pokémon, clocking around 4.007 seconds.
Origin
Cetitan appears to be inspired by different cetaceans, most notably right whales based on their highly arched mouth, round body without dorsal fin, belly without ventral grooves, and horns near their jaw (which may be based on the callosities found on the head and mouth of right whales). Right whales were heavily hunted for thick blubber and oils and were named because they were "right whales to hunt" due to their inquisitiveness and calm natures. These correspond with that of Cetitan and Cetoddle to be friendly by nature and possess thick fats and drop Cetoddle Grease on occasions, and North Atlantic Right Whales were heavily hunted in Iberian Peninsula, the inspiration source of Paldea, and were called "Balea Vasca" ("whales of Basque"), and is now virtually extinct in European and African waters. North Atlantic right whale's scientific name (Eubalaena glacialis) means "true whales of ice", somewhat corresponding to the type of Cetitan.
Additionally, Cetitan's Ice type may allude to the bowhead whale, which are close relatives to right whales and are also known as "Arctic whales" or "Ice whales" or "Polar whales" or "Greenland right whales". Its white coloration brings to mind a beluga whale or Moby Dick, an albino sperm whale that appears in a novel of the same name. Its horns may also make it inspired by a narwhal. Furthermore, Cetitan's anatomy to possess hind-legs may be based on prehistoric, four-limbed cetaceans.
Cetitan may also be based on the ningen (ニンゲン), a creature from modern Japanese folklore that is said to live in subantarctic oceans (which may be another explanation for its Ice typing). The creature is often described as being both human- and whale-like in appearance and is often depicted as bipedal (which may explain Cetitan's legs). The ningen is also described to be completely pale white in color.
Etymology
Cetitan comes from "cetus" (Latin for "whale") or "Cetacea" (the order of animals including whales and dolphins) and "titan".
