Ting-Lu

Ting-Lu (Japanese: ディンルー, HepburnDinruu) (TIHNG-loo[1]) is a Dark/Ground-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation IX. It is one of four Pokémon that make up the Ruinous Quartet.

Biology

Physiology

Ting-Lu is a moose-like Pokémon with four legs and a strong, hump-shouldered body. It is made of layered stone and carries a green bowl atop its head that appears to be made of oxidized iron. Like the other Treasures of Ruination, this Pokémon's true body is the bowl atop its head. Used for ritual-like purposes, the fear that was poured into the bowl came alive, covering itself in thick layers of stone. This Pokémon has the ability to create earthquakes and fissures in the earth.

    Trivia

    Origin

Regarding its mythical symbolic qualities with the wicked king, Ting-Lu embodies the fear felt by the people under the king's tyranny. With the king bringing nothing but iron fisted control and selfish rule over the state, so would the king's rituals to showcase his providence and right to rule would rather instill dread of what is yet to come under his reign, than pride and anticipation under a rightful and just king.

    Etymology

Both its English and Japanese name may come from these words: dǐng (鼎), a Chinese cauldron which the Pokémon's vessel is based on, and lú (鹿), meaning "deer." The Chinese characters are romanized into English using the Wade–Giles romanization system.

    Design

The design seems to be that of a moose or elk, while its horns are the ding. Given its stout build, status as a member of a quartet, and the fact it's based on a ding, Ting-Lu might be based on the Taotie (饕餮) , a gluttonous monster from Chinese mythology that was a common design motif on dings and a member of the Four Perils.
