The Red Rock (レッドロック, Reddo Rokku^?) is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Board-type Extreme Gear that was originally created by Robotnik Corp. and then customized by Tails for Knuckles to use.

Description

The Red Rock made its first appearance in Sonic Riders. According to its profile, it is produced by Robotnik Corp. as a Power Type Air board. It is only useable to Knuckles in this game.

The Red Rock's design in Sonic Riders is that of a long and sleek red board with a thin silver footing plate running down the middle. On each side of this silver plate is also a yellow plate with black diagonal stripes.

Abilities and traits

As a Board-type Extreme Gear in Sonic Riders, the Red Rock is well-balanced in its attributes with average statistics, an average rate of fuel-consumption and is suited for general riding.

Like most other character exclusive Extreme Gears, the Red Rock does not possess any unique abilities of its own. The Red Rock is built to match Knuckles' powerful fighting style, possessing above average endurance and power in general, but lacks in control.

Description

The Red Rock reappeared later in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. According to its profile, the Red Rock was in this game rebuilt from the ground up by Tails, and has the properties of transforming metal. It is only usable to Knuckles in normal races, but is usable to all characters (except Dr. Eggman) in Survival Relay.

In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, the Red Rock received a noticeable update in design. In this game, it is given an entirely new shape, almost resembling a bone and made much more sturdy in appearance. Most of the Red Rock is colored red, while a section of the rear, the top surface and the corners of the front and rear are colored white. It also has two grey circular foot panels on the top surface, a green highlight running across the side and a yellow underside.

As a Board type Extreme Gear in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, the Red Rock is well-balanced in its attributes with average statistics and is suited for general riding. Like most other character-exclusive Extreme Gears, the Red Rock does not possess any unique abilities of its own.

Sonic Free Riders

Description

The Red Rock made another appearance in Sonic Free Riders. According to its profile, Tails rebuilt the Red Rock with more sturdier materials than any earlier versions of the Red Rock to match Knuckles' tough racing style. It is only usable to Knuckles in normal races, but is useable to all characters (except Dr. Eggman and Vector) in Relay Race.

In Sonic Free Riders, the Red Rock received a new redesign. In this game, the Red Rock returned to having more board-like dimensions as it had in Sonic Riders, though it is not as long or thin. It is mainly colored red, with slightly darker red accents on the edges. It also has sections of white accents on the rear, front and sides. On its top surface, it also has two white circles, with darker red segments and yellow curves adorning the surface.

As a Board type Extreme Gear in Sonic Free Riders, the Red Rock is, like in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, well-balanced in its attributes with average stats and is suited for general riding.

Like in the previous titles, the Red Rock possesses no unique abilities of its own, but it can be equipped with up to two Gear Parts.

Sonic Speed Simulator

In Sonic Speed Simulator, the Red Rock appears in its Sonic Free Riders design as an unlockable Extreme Gear earned during the first part of the "Freestyle Riders Event (Legacy)" event by collecting 75,000 Air. Later on during the "Freestyle Riders Event (Reborn)",, it was obtainable for collecting 50,000 Air. Once unlocked, the Red Rock and its variants can be used by any character, and essentially functions similarly to all other Extreme Gears in the game. The Red Rock also has an in-game rarity of "Epic".

A variant called the Classic Red Rock, based on its Sonic Riders design, appears as the 3rd prize in the 5th set of Daily Challenges, requiring the player to use Grind Rails for 10 minutes. Later on, it was made available during the "Classic Knuckles Event" for spending 10 minutes airborne in Speed Jungle Zone. Alternatively it has been made available for Robux in Green Hill and Metal City Skatepark. The Classic Red Rock also has an in-game rarity of "Epic".

Archie Comics

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, the Red Rock was one of the Extreme Gears constructed by Miles "Tails" Prower so that the rest of the team could keep up with Sonic the Hedgehog during their missions.

After the Super Genesis Wave re-wrote history, the Red Rock's past became virtually identical to its game counterpart's.

IDW Publishing

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, the Red Rock is used by Knuckles when the battleship carrying him and his allies was about to crash on their way to Angel Island. He uses his Red Rock to abandon the ship and fly the rest of the way to Angel Island alongside Sonic.^[4]

Merchandise

Jazwares produced 3” Knuckles with Extreme Gear action figure which came with the Red Rock board as an accessory.
