Gravity Point

Gravity Points, often shortened to GP, is a gameplay mechanic in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. It is a special type of fuel for Extreme Gears which replaces Air from Sonic Riders and Sonic Free Riders.

Overview

In gameplay, Gravity Points are stored in the GP Gauge which shows the amount of Gravity Points the player possess. Gravity Points allow a player during a race to perform Gravity Actions, such as Gravity Control and Gravity Dive. Both of these actions consume Gravity Points and once the racer's GP Gauge is depleted the player can no longer use any Gravity Actions.

Much like Air in Sonic Riders and Sonic Free Riders, there are numerous ways for the racers to accumulate Gravity Points although they vary on the Extreme Gear being used:

  • The player earns GP by passing the starting line. The amount of GP earned depends on the time taken for the player to pass through the starting line after the countdown finishes. Can grant up to 100 GP.
  • Performing Tricks, where the amount of GP received is based on the Rank of the trick as seen in the following table for most Extreme Gears.
Rank GP
X 50
SS 40
S 35
AA 30
A 25
B 20
C 0
  • GP can be earned by performing the following skill actions: grinding on grind sections, air-riding and smashing through obstacles. When grinding and air riding, GP is earned over time while performing those actions. With smashing through obstacles (with a Bike or Wheel type Gear), GP is earned as soon as the racer makes contact with the obstacle. The GP the player earns for doing so increases if the player smashes through obstacles in quick succession.
  • Performing a Meteor Burst while using Gravity Dive. The amount of GP earned is usually random.
  • The GP Boost power-up item that can be obtained from Item Boxes can replenish the GP Gauge. They can come in 30, 50, 100 or MAX.
  • When accessing "Wall Routes" with Gravity Control, the player will earn 30 GP.
  • The following Extreme Gears have unique abilities that lets the racer replenish GP.
  • In Survival Relay, if a player passes the Gear to the next player in a changeover zone while both characters are moving at a sufficient pace, the next player gains a bonus of up to 100 GP.

Extreme Gear accumulation

Some Extreme Gears will earn less Gravity Points than others when performing the same actions, usually to offset the benefits that these Gears have such as unique abilities, high stats and/or Gear Parts. This only affects GP earned from performing tricks, accessing Wall Routes, skill actions and Meteor Bursts.

In Free Race and Survival Relay, the player can set the GP accumulation with three different settings in the GP category of Rule Settings (in ascending order): Low, Normal and High. If the setting is Low, some Extreme Gears will not be able to accumulate GP with performing Tricks.[1] All modes outside of Free Race and Survival Relay use Normal only.

The following table details all Extreme Gears' accumulation rates in each setting.

Trivia

  • In Survival Battle, once the player has depleted their GP Gauge, they will be forced to run on-foot until they received a GP Boost power-up, which may be a reference to Sonic Riders that once the player ran out of Air, they had to run on-foot until they managed to accumulate Air.

Notes

  1. All percentage values in this table are determined from these Gears' values in Normal as a point of reference.
