Battleship

The Battleship,[1] (戦艦[2] Senkan?) also known as the Rescue Shuttle[3] or the Restoration Shuttle,[4] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is a type of warship used by the Resistance and Restoration.

Description

Appearance

The Battleship is a large blue and gray space shuttle-like aircraft with several details. It has a bright gray top half and a dark gray underbelly, and a narrow windshield spanning the entire front of the ship. On top of it are two gray and blue single-barreled gun turrets, and below the windshield on the front is a blue outstretched fin. Also, around the rear are two vertical stabilizers and a single thin horizontal stabilizer. Lastly, it has two rectangular-shaped thrusters on the rear.

Abilities and features

Being an airship, the Battleship is capable of flight.[1]

History

Battle For Angel Island and Big's Big Adventure

The Battleship was first seen being used by the Resistance and its allies to reach Angel Island. Unknown to all of them, Big the Cat stowed away on the ship as he believed he saw Froggy on board. After realizing that it was just a Wisp, Big took a nap in a storage room for the entire flight. When the Battleship approached Angel Island, however, the Egg Fleet, which had occupied the island, began shooting at it, forcing the Battleship down. By the time the Battleship crashed on Angel Island, however, everyone onboard had evacuated it.[1][5]

Crisis City

A Battleship was eventually sent to Seaside City by Amy as a Rescue Shuttle to help with the evacuation of citizens after the city was attacked with the Metal Virus by Dr. Eggman in his Faceship. After its arrival, the shuttle helped a handful of uninfected citizens escape, including Vector the Crocodile and Espio the Chameleon.[3] Another Rescue Shuttle was later sent down to Floral Forest Village to evacuate the uninfected villagers of the Metal Virus, which included Cream the Rabbit and Vanilla the Rabbit.[6]

Flock Together

Vector and Espio used a Rescue Shuttle to help transport refugees from Pine Grove Village to Restoration HQ. It was attacked by a flock of Zombot Flickies and a Zombot Charmy. With the combined efforts of Vector and Espio, they were able to stop the Flickies and capture Charmy.[7]

The Last Minute

When Restoration HQ was the subject for a Zombot outbreak, Amy called for the Restoration pilots to quickly go to the launch bay and prepare for an immediate take-off. However, only one pilot was able to make it out of the HQ uninfected. Not many refugees made it out of the HQ uninfected either but several of them still boarded the one ship. After it took off, the Rescue Shuttle went to Central City to rescue the uninfected citizens there. The ship landed at Central City Bay, which prompted Tangle and Whisper to guide the city's survivors into the ship. After Tangle, Whisper and Tails boarded the Rescue Shuttle, the ship took off once again.[8][9]

The Rescue Shuttle was soon flown to Spiral Hill Village after a Zombot outbreak there. Amy and Gemerl created a choke point a choke point at the ship to prevent any Zombots from approaching. After several uninfected citizens were rescued, the shuttle took off once again.[10]

All or Nothing

Silver went to Ice Paradise with a Rescue Shuttle in hopes to save the citizens there after a Zombot outbreak occurred. Unfortunately, the ship went down to the Zombots and Silver was unable to save anyone. Meanwhile, the final Rescue Shuttle traveled to Angel Island as a final safe haven. Later, on the ship, the group received word from Rouge about the Deadly Six's plans. After the group had come up with a plan to take on the Deadly Six, Amy checked in with Rouge in the Rescue Shuttle, with the bat informing her that Zavok was asking a lot of questions, trying to figure out where Eggman fled to; she stated that if they were going to make a move, they should do it soon.[4][11]

Out of the Blue

After the Metal Virus was destroyed, Eggman decided to steal the final Rescue Shuttle in order to make a quick getaway as everyone else was distracted with Sonic's disappearance. Metal Sonic came to the ship when Eggman started to take off after he had retrieved Orbot and Cubot. While there, Orbot found the head of Omega. When Eggman detected that Shadow was gaining on the ship, he sent Metal Sonic to slow him down so that he could gain good altitude to fly away. The doctor temporarily landed the shuttle on a cliff long enough for Metal to subdue Shadow and thus return. Following this, the shuttle took off from Angel Island.[12]

Phantom Riders

The shuttle was used for the Clean Sweepstakes race event to have the competitors, Jewel, Clutch and the staff of the Restoration and Clean Sweep Inc. transported around the world and to sleep at night. It was used as well a amphitheater for the audience. Each event occurred in a different part of the world. All the staff would use the main bridge to manage the race, including Nite the Owl, who served as the host for the event.

The evening prior to the race, Mimic would show Clutch the racers such as the Babylon Rogues (with him saying how they are no threat), but when shown that Team Sonic was in the race, he feared that Amy would run into him, which would ruin the plan. He asked Mimic to help him create a device for their Extreme Gear the next morning. Mimic, disguised as Duo, woke up Surge and Kit and informs them to click the button to stop Sonic and his team, but Surge denied saying how she wanted to do things her way. Clutch walked in the room and mentions how they were nothing without him, so she ultimately agreed.

Belle the Tinkerer would be tinkering with the Extreme Gears in the Battleship machine shop when Clutch and the Clean Sweepstakes Security take the boards and tie Belle up in a locker.

After getting their Extreme Gears hijacked and getting disqualified from the race during the first event, Sonic, Tails and Amy, offered by Eggman, decided to investigate the shuttle to find out what Clean Sweep Inc. is hiding. Sonic would use the Eggstreme Gear to distract the Clean Sweepstakes Security as the the Phantom Rider, Amy and Tails snuck up into the shuttle. There, they discovered and freed a tied up Belle, when she told how the Clean Sweepstakes Security seemed to have taken over the Restoration and tied her up. By Belle's description, Amy recognize Clutch as Clean Sweep Inc.' CEO. They would later try to talk Jewel, but were stopped by Rough and Tumble, who were disguised as Doctor Yolk and Nick.

Jewel eventually started to realize something was wrong when Clutch and the Clean Sweepstakes Security had flooded the ship and reactivated the shuttle's arsenal without her permission to stop the Phantom Rider. She confronted him and asks security to escort him out of the main bridge, but then she realized the security work for Clean Sweep Inc. and they were watching closely the Restoration staff doing their work. So she informed Tangle and Whisper about the situation. They in return, revealed to her that Sonic is the Phantom Rider, so she decides to try to contact him. In the meantime, Tails, Amy and Belle and Don the Rooster found the Chaotix locked in a cage in the engine room, where Vector revealed they had a USB drive containing proof Clean Sweep Inc. was a criminal organization But then they all got caught by Clutch, accompanied by Rough, Tumble and the security. A fight started, which ended in Tails, Amy, Belle, Vector, Espio, Don, Rough and Tumble locked in the engine room, while Charmy escaped with the USB drive with Clutch and the security after him. Charmy made it to the main bridge and gave the drive Nite. Clutch tried to intervene but was stopped by Restoration staff and Jewel, whom have officially terminated the business partnership between the two organizations. Nite managed to expose Clutch for his crimes. The latter, in rage, crushed the control and shuts of the broadcast and began to override the shuttle when Jewel stopped him by self-destructing the shuttle starting the countdown in thirty minutes, then Clutch shut down the shuttle and set it on a collision course to Central City.

While Sonic, Surge, Kit and Eggman (controlling the Eggstreme Gear) fought Clutch in the deck of the shuttle, Jewel, the Chaotix, Amy, Tails, Rough, Tumble, Nite and Don entered the main bridge after escaping the engine room. Tails tried to hack into the shuttle's system, only for the hardware to melt in front of him. Before the shuttle can get any closer to the city, it was suddenly pulled upwards by numerous hover cars using tethers to connect to the shuttle while the Babylon Rogues guide them. Jewel decided that instead of stopping the ship, they would have to change its course to the Emeraldville Ruins, where Restoration HQ is. Sonic informed the Babylon Rogues of the change in plans, and Jet begrudgingly cooperated after being reminded by Wave that they do not have time to argue. Amy asked Jewel if Restoration HQ is empty, to which the beetle tearfully responded that it would be a better crash site than the city. Jet informed him that they have turned the ship, Sonic challenged the hawk to a friendly competition: whoever can evacuate the most people from Restoration HQ first wins. Jet accepted, and he, Sonic, Tails, Amy, Belle, and the Chaotix headed the the HQ while Nite, Don, Jewel, Rough, and Tumble remained behind. Meanwhile, at the Sweepstakes Amphitheater, Tangle and Whisper continued to chase down Mimic, who attempted to fend them off with a rapid-fire pistol. However, both it and Mimic's Extreme Gear were destroyed by a laser blast from Whisper's Variable Wispon. Tangle prepared to catch Mimic by using her tail as a lasso, but an explosion allowed him to escape their line of sight long enough to hide within the crowd below. The course started falling apart, so Lanolin, Tangle and Whisper worked together to guide the ship to a safe landing.

Restoration HQ destroyed

Once Restoration HQ was completely evacuated, the shuttle fell on top of the building. The ship self-destructed, destroying the HQ as well. At the sight of the destroyed HQ, Jewel dropped to her knees and began sobbing. The Diamond Cutters then arrived as well, with Tangle running over to check on Jewel. Distraught by the loss of Restoration HQ, Jewel believed that she has failed and that the Restoration is over, but Tangle pointed her attention to all the members who are alive and well, helping Jewel as well as Lanolin realize that the people are what truly define the Restoration rather than a building. The heroes prepared to go clean up the mess and rebuild, with even Rough and Tumble being forced to help as payment for the ride down.

Scattered Pieces

Many days after Restoration HQ's destruction, the destroyed shuttle was still on top of the destroyed building.
