Trail

The trail[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a cosmetic item used to modify the playable character's appearance and boost their rewards.

Description

When equipped, the trails take the appearance of different trails that the playable character leaves behind them while they move around or surrounds them like an aura when standing still. These trails appear as textures in the form of either streams in different colors or strings of figures. Regardless, a trail stretches out from behind the playable character until it eventually fades away. The color and shape of the trail depends on its type.

Overview

In Sonic Speed Simulator, the trails are cosmetic items with notable gameplay functions that boost the player's different rewards. The player can purchase them from vending machines using Rings or unlock them during certain events or from completing certain Quests or Time Trials. When purchasing from a vending machine though, the player only has specific chance of obtaining the desired trail.

When obtaining a trail, the player can equip to the playable character, which makes them leave an animated texture in their wake as they move around. The game offers several different trails to choose from, each with different attributes. These include the classification of their rarity when obtained from vending machines. Their rarities determine the benefits they grant when equipped, which involve boosting the amount of XP and Rings earned when Chaos Orbs or Rings are collected.

The player can equip the playable character with any trail, although they can only equip one at a time. The player can level up a trail by visiting the Upgrade Machine and paying a sum of Rings and/or Red Star Rings, which varies depending on the trail and current level. Leveling up a trail will improve the benefits it grants. Also, the player can carry a combination of up to twenty items (with each trail and Chao taking up a slot) by default. However, Trails gained from Quests or Time Trials can surpass this limit. Additionally, the player can evolve a trail by collecting five of the same type, leveling all of them up to maximum, and bringing them to the Fusion Machine. Evolving a trail will result in a singular evolved trail at level 1, with boosted stats compared to the unevolved variant.

Unlike Chao, the player starts out with a Default Trail that is automatically equipped to the playable character when they first begin the game. It is the only item that can be equipped to the playable character that gives no bonuses at level 1. Furthermore, the Default Trail cannot be deleted from the inventory, nor can it be evolved as the player is only given one. While it can still be leveled up and be unequipped like other trails, it takes up one inventory slot.
