Wall Route

The Wall Route[1] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a type of shortcut on walls that the player can reach with Gravity Control.

Description

Wall Routes are vertically-aligned roads on the walls of the tracks they are located on. Their design depends on the track they are on, although they typically match that of the local environment:

  • Megalo Station: The Wall Routes here are pristine and metallic roads with a lavender coloration.
  • Botanical Kingdom: The Wall Routes here are brown and green wooden roads with moss and yellow decorations on them.
  • MeteorTech Premises: The Wall Routes here consist of four large and parallel gray pipes with the occasional panel with arrows on them on top of them.
  • Aquatic Capital: The Wall Routes here are blue with the occasional moving arrow images along them and water flowing down them.
  • Gigan Rocks: The Wall Routes here are ancient and beige/brown stone paths with carvings on them.
  • Crimson Crater: The Wall Routes here consist of four large and parallel yellow pipes with the occasional MeteorTech logo-emblazed panel on top of them.
  • Gigan Device: The Wall Routes here are ancient and dark-colored stone paths with carvings on them.
  • Nightside Rush: The Wall Routes here are pristine and metallic roads with holographic arrows on top of then.
  • Snowy Kingdom: The Wall Routes here are simple snow-covered roads with no bigger details to them.
  • MeteorTech Sparkworks: The Wall Routes here are high-tech blue roads with metallic meshes covering their surfaces.
  • Tempest Waterway: The Wall Routes here are dark blue with the occasional moving arrow images and tunnel sections along them.
  • Astral Babylon: The Wall Routes here are clear and turquoise glass roads with frames.
  • '80s Boulevard: The Wall Routes here are made up of rectangular advertisement signs situated right next to each other.
  • '90s Boulevard: The Wall Routes here consist of window glass with holographic video game advertisement displayed on their surfaces.

Overview

In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, the Wall Routes are additional shortcuts or alternate routes on the game's race tracks. They are typically located behind certain quarter-pipes or similar formations on the race tracks.[1] Areas with Wall Routes are marked with round, high-tech LED signs that display a purple image of Sonic running up along a vertical wall.

In gameplay, by launching themselves off the quarter-pipe or Trick Zones and up to the level with the Wall Route, the player can trigger Gravity Control and then direct themself towards the Wall Route. Once the playable character makes contact with the Wall Route, they will stick to it despite its vertical position, allowing the player to ride along it without worrying of falling off. In addition, accessing a Wall Route will grant the player a small portion of Gravity Points. The Wall Routes can also have gimmicks along them, such as Dash Panels. Eventually though, the Wall Routes will typically even out and/or merge back with the main track. There is also the Auto Wall-Run Gear Part which lets the player access Wall Routes without using Gravity Control.
