History
In Sonic Riders, the Blue Star was customized by Tails especially for Sonic to participate in the EX World Grand Prix. When Wave met with Team Sonic after the first race, she put an explosive device on it, realizing this board could be her group's downfall. While doing so, she mocked it as a "piece of junk" then walked away. Later on, while Sonic and Jet were proving who is the fastest in the final race and lap of the Grand Prix, she detonated it, seeing that Jet was losing the race while Sonic was inches away from the finish line. The bomb exploded successfully and the Blue Star was destroyed, sending Sonic flying into the ground, while Jet claimed the victory.

Its somewhat powered updated stats blazes in as Sonic's own personal ride once again. It is only useable to Sonic in normal races, but is usable to all characters (except Dr. Eggman) in Survival Relay.
In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, the Blue Star underwent a significant redesign. In this game, it resembles a sleek blue "T" with two circular silver-colored foot panels on the top, with a silver-colored area between them. Around the foot panels and along the front and on the rear, it has white areas and a green streak running across it with two orb-like exhaust ports built at the back.

Sonic Speed Simulator
In Sonic Speed Simulator, the Blue Star appears in its Sonic Free Riders design as an unlockable Extreme Gear of the "Legendary" rarity. It was first obtainable during the second part of the "Freestyle Riders (Legacy) Event" by collecting 50,000 Points. Later, it was made available as the 14th reward of the 2nd set of Daily Login Rewards. Later, it was made available again in the "Freestyle Riders (Reborn) Event" by collecting 10,000 Air. Alternatively, it could be purchased for Robux. Once unlocked, the Blue Star and its variants can be used by any character, and essentially functions similarly to all other Extreme Gears in the game.
A variant for the Blue Star called the Classic Blue Star, based on its Sonic Riders design, was added and was obtainable as the 7th prize during the 5th set of Daily Challenges, requiring the player to Jump through 100 sky rings using Extreme Gear in Metal City Skate Park. Alternatively, it can be purchased for Robux in Speed Jungle Zone and Metal City Skatepark for as low as 10 Robux. The Classic Blue Star also has an in-game rarity of "Epic".
Another variant for the Blue Star called the Blue Star ZG, based on its Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity design, was added and was obtainable as the 4th prize in the "1st Anniversary Celebration Event" The Blue Star ZG also has an in-game rarity of "Legendary".
Another variant for the Blue Star called the Blue Star Collector's Edition, has occasionally been available for sale in both Green Hill and Metal City Skatepark. The Blue Star Collectors Edition also has an in-game rarity of "Legendary".
The Blue Star II is the successor of the Blue Star, built by either Robotnik Corp. or Tails during the firstWorld Grand Prix. It is basically an upgraded model of the first Blue Star, with greater speed but worse maneuvering.
In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, the Blue Star was one of the Extreme Gear constructed by Tails so that the rest of the team could keep up with Sonic the Hedgehog during their missions. The Blue Star itself was especially constructed for Sonic, in case that Sonic wanted to try them out.
After the Super Genesis Wave rebooted reality, the Blue Star became virtually indistinguishable from its video game counterpart.
Sonic would use the Blue Star again during the Clean Sweepstakes race event. However, by Clutch's orders, Surge and Kit sabotaged the Blue Star, the Yellow Tail Turbo and the Pink Rose, making the boards go out of control. Sonic, Tails and Amy were saved by the Diamond Cutters, but the hazard their boards caused resulted in the three getting disqualified from the race.

Jazwares produced a Sonic The Hedgehog action figure with his extreme gear and his Blue Star Board. Additionally NKOK made a remote controlled Blue Star and Free Riders Sonic.
Trivia
During the early development of Sonic Free Riders, the Blue Star was named "Blue Star III", and took on the same stats as the original Blue Star.[citation needed]
The Blue Star has the most versions of any Extreme Gear in the Sonic Riders series.
The Blue Star makes a cameo (using its appearance and model from Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity) as a Weapon Camo in Phantasy Star Online 2, under the name "Extreme Gear". It is identical in appearance to its Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity counterpart, but split into halves. It is also wielded as twin swords by the enemy Sonic Nyau, a Nyau who is dressed to resemble Sonic the Hedgehog.
