Bat Cracker

Rouge's ground trap. Sets bat-shaped mines guided by simple AI to hover over enemies' heads.

— Info, Sonic Battle[1]

The Bat Cracker (バットクラッカー Battokurakkā?) is a move and piece of equipment used primarily by Rouge the Bat.

Description

The Bat Cracker is a bat-shaped mine that detonates on contact, or otherwise chases down an enemy with limited AI.

Game appearances

Sonic Battle

The Bat Cracker first appears in Sonic Battle, serving as Rouge's Ground Trap.

When performing the Bat Cracker, the user summons a bat-shaped balloon bomb that hovers above enemies, preventing opponents from going into the air without the risk of the bomb detonating at them on contact.

Emerl can randomly obtain this skill after participating in a fight with Rouge, either with or against her.

— Unused Hint Ring description, from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
Sonic06BatCracker

The Bat Cracker Mine was a move that was intended to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), once again as one of Rouge's abilities. The attack would've laid a mine that would've exploded after a set period of time, and would've been able to have been set while gliding as well.

The model for the Bat Cracker remains in the files, and is even shown on Rouge's loading screen hint for her Tropical Jungle stage. In this game, the Bat Cracker would've been more egg-shaped, and instead of having a design similar to Rouge herself, it would instead have a large pink heart on it.

While the move was ultimately made unavailable in the final game, it was not removed, and can be restored by editing the game. When used, the move places a Bat Cracker at Rouge's position, which detonates after a short period of time. It can also target nearby objects, but strangely does not target enemies unless they have pieces that detach.[2]
