—Serra to Matthew in The Blazing Blade
Serra is a playable character from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. She is a high-maintenance cleric who is a member of the St. Elimine Church, and believes she deserves praise from everyone around her. Serra is sixteen years old in Lyn's story and seventeen years old in Eliwood and Hector's story.
Profile
Serra, for unknown reasons, was left by her family to be raised in a scanty convent, near the Etrurian/Ostian frontier, where she studied the teachings of St. Elimine. During her childhood, she was greatly neglected and mistreated, a miserable past that would contribute to her personality later on. Eventually, she became a cleric and entered service in Ostia. Serra claims to be from a noble family of Etruria, but it's not clear if she telling the truth or is making up her past to cope with her bad childhood, seeing that she doesn't know where her family lands are, nor has contact with her parents.
Lyn's Story
Journeying to Ostia with her less-than-enthusiastic escort, Erk, Serra becomes entangled with Lyn's group on the border between Sacae and Lycia. Much to the displeasure of her escort, Serra joins Lyn on her quest to reunite with her grandfather. After Lundgren is killed and Caelin's monarchy restored, Serra and Erk depart, and both part ways at Ostia. If Serra is attacked and defeated by an enemy in Chapter 5, she will instead send Erk with Lyn, stating that she is too hurt to continue, staying behind alone to wait for her wounds to heal.
Eliwood and Hector's Story
Serra is encountered again in Lycia, as part of Hector's group. Seeing Eliwood and his knights harassed by bandits, Hector orders her and Matthew to stay back while he and Oswin assist Eliwood. Serra, along with Hector's group, then joins up with Eliwood's party.
In Chapter 15E/16H, Serra can speak to Lyn, where, true to her misplaced pomposity, she will declare her all-too-noble intention to save Lyn. At this stage, Serra also establishes that she considers Lyn to be a dear friend.
Thereafter, Serra accompanies Eliwood, Hector and Lyn on their quest to first locate Eliwood's father Lord Elbert and later defeat Nergal and his morphs.
At the end of this journey, Serra returns to Ostia and relaxes. Depending on her supports, Serra could potentially be paired up with Erk, Matthew or Oswin.
Personality
Serra is outspoken with a relentless and forceful personality. Due to her misfortunes as a child, Serra developed a high-maintenance, egotistical, and somewhat cowardly personality, one coupled with a talkative inclination. Her unrestrained behavior is the main irritation for most of of the army. But for some characters like Matthew and Erk, she eventually shows her vulnerable side, where she drops her princess-like façade to reveal a fragile psyche, pointing towards the fact that her personality is just a way for her to get attention, something that she longed for but never got as a child.
Serra also shares a rather amusing one-sided "rivalry" with Lucius in their support conversations. She mistakes Lucius for an exceptionally beautiful woman and treats him with disdain and jealousy at first, although they both eventually become fast friends after she learns that their upbringing is similar. Serra also is shown to admire Hector, who in turn makes fun of her, as they developed a rocky but comical relationship.

Serra is your first Cleric and healer to join you in all three modes, which is pretty useful since most of your unpromoted units will be rather frail early on and will frequently need healing. Serra's stats aren't very important as she is a staff user first and foremost, but it is worth mentioning her low base Magic of 2. This means that Serra will heal less HP and have less staff range than most other staff users. She is also quite frail; even after Serra promotes and gets access to Light magic, she's a poor choice as a combat unit due to her low HP, Defense, and relatively weak Magic.
While Serra is quite useful early on due to her staff utility, she has trouble competing against later staff units: Priscilla comes with the advantage of being mounted, allowing her to rescue units. Priscilla can also use her higher movement and the Canto ability to keep up with the rest of the army. Canas and Erk both start with E rank staves, but have better Magic than Serra and will have more utility as combat units due to their better bases and promotion bonuses. Lucius in particular will be a solid staff user upon promotion, as he will gain C rank in staves immediately upon promoting and has 5 more points of magic than Serra does at base. Even if none of the unpromoted Guiding Ring users are used, Pent joins with A rank staves and much higher Magic than Serra will ever achieve. For most players, one or two of these units will replace Serra as time goes on due to their greater utility.
It is usually worth promoting Serra at level 10 or soon after if using her. Serra will never be a great combat unit, but she will at least benefit from possibly being able to attack low-Resistance enemies, making it possible to get use out of her even when no staff use is needed. More importantly, she will also get some weapon EXP in Staves and 1 extra point of Movement, meaning she can keep up with other units to heal them and can reach higher-rank staves earlier. At the latest Serra should be promoted by level 12 or 14; it takes a long time to level her. Even if the player uses staves like Torch and Barrier to get some extra EXP on Serra, she will generally be underleveled relative to other units; the extra utility she gets out of promoting is much more helpful to her than some extra levels.
To sum it up, while Serra will most likely be outclassed by most other units with staff utility long term, but she can contribute by healing your units during the more difficult early chapters. Her longer term performance, however, is quite poor. A promoted Lucius will be an equal or stronger staff user, Pent comes with much better Magic and free A rank staves, and Priscilla's higher Movement and mounted status will give her more utility than Serra. These units also have the potential to become decent combat units, unlike Serra who will rarely reach the Speed threshold needed to double and cannot do much damage regardless due to her poor average Magic.
Despite her drawbacks, Serra is a staff user, and it's always possible to use a staff user. She won't do better than other options, but she will be able to contribute in pretty much every map she is deployed in. Her staff utility is a solid asset, and if using her it's best to focus on using her as a staff unit: Serra's poor stats make her a pretty terrible combat unit, and there will be plenty for her to do in most maps without ever attacking.
Serra also fits the Lena archetype, due to her relationship with the thief Matthew.

Base Set
Serra was among the host of Infantry Staff units to join Heroes as a part of its launch roster. Unfortunately for her, this was mostly a weak point in the future of the game's lifespan as consistently stronger, more focused units were released after her. Her Atk and Spd are middling for a Book I healer at 31 and 30 respectively. She has decent Book I magical bulk scoring 66. Her physical bulk is low, leaving her extremely vulnerable to a host of common host of Heroes who can easily dispatch her. Both Dragonflowers and her Resplendent forms do give her a general boost and makes her at least decent when compared to units released after. She mostly underperforms unless heavily invested in, but given the ease of acquiring extra copies of her, she can make for a passable high merge unit, though perhaps her true potential will be seen once she gains a personal weapon.
Absorb+ is her starting staff which restores her own HP based on 50% of the damage she dealt to her opponent. Thankfully she can inherit either Wrathful Staff or Dazzling Staff, the former allowing her staff damage to deal normal damage while the latter negates opponent counterattacks if she initiates combat. The downside is it has low Mt of 7, so her weapon damage is low on its own.
Recover heals her ally up to 50% of her HP +10 extra health. Swapping it out for Imbue may also be worth considering as the flat +10 HP can save a heavily wounded ally in a pinch. It is a solid flat recovery and having a decent Atk stat, she can heal about 30 HP or so per use. Swift-Winds Balm gives Spd+4 to all allies for 1 turn when it activates, a rather paltry stat increase, but it does not hurt to give it. Hone Attack grants allies adjacent to her at the start of her turn a visible Atk+4 boost.
Counters
Serra lacks a lot of power, meaning that she has difficulty dealing meaningful damage to even some modestly bulky units. Many units with at least half decent magical bulk removes any sort of threat that she possibly has and can easily deal with her either by counterattack or on their next turn. Her magical bulk does allow her to survive a small number of magic users every now and then, but most physical units will easily cleave through her low Def.
Skill Inheritance
Pain is overall the best inheritable staff that Serra can inherit as the splash damage it deals after battle deals far more damage than her usual in combat damage. It also syncs nicely with the standard Wrathful Staff/Dazzling Staff combo plus Savage Blow Skill C and Seal combination that most staff units are known for maximizes the splash damage she can inflict of her foes. As for which between the Wrathful or Dazzling Staff skill, either works, but it is a bit of a risk to inherit one as she may get her exclusive staff in the future which may end up wasting a use of the skill so inherit with caution. Skill A is basically dependent on whether or not the focus is more on her Atk, her primary means of boosting her damage in battle, and either her Spd or Res as boosting the former helps her to deal more damage while the latter helps to resist more mages. As for her Special, mainly for scoring, any combo stat boosting staff special works, though Windfire Balm is the most popular of the choices. Heavenly Light can spread the healing and Miracle can save her in a pinch. Physic is a solid replacement for Recover as it allows her to heal an ally from a distance, thus keeping her slightly farther away from damage as she heals her allies.

Etymology
Serra is the Portuguese word for "hill" or "saw" and is also a common surname. Sarah, which is also a name which Serra is derives from, means princess in Hebrew.
Trivia
- Three of the units in Serra's SpotPass team in Fire Emblem Awakening represent the three characters she can be paired with:
- She uses a remix of Cath's leitmotif from The Binding Blade in scenes where she is the focus.
- Her map and battle sprites as a Cleric are unique to her, as all other female healers from the GBA games have a veil that cover their hair. Serra on other hand, not only misses the veil, but her hair is also styled in pigtails in both sprites.
- If she promotes, her map sprite will gain the veil, but not her battle sprite, which still shows Serra without it.
