—Holst talking about Cyril in a letter
Holst is a character mentioned in Fire Emblem: Three Houses before appearing in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes as a route-locked playable character in Golden Wildfire. He is a duke of the Leicester Alliance, the head of House Goneril, and the older brother of Hilda.
Profile
A former student of the Officers Academy, Holst was credited for securing victory for the Golden Deer at the Battle of the Eagle and Lion during his academic year. He also befriended Balthus von Albrecht in these years, a friendship that would last for many years, even after Balthus left his house to become a wandering vagabond. Their friendship is so strong that it even endures Balthus joining the Empire, as Holst still asks for his help in routing bandits at the Throat during Crimson Flower.
Holst inherited his family's title sometime before Imperial Year 1180. As the head of House Goneril, he was charged with defending the Leicester Alliance from invasions from the neighboring kingdom of Almyra and managing the fortress of Fódlan's Locket. He earned a reputation as Leicester's greatest general.
Prior to Claude being recognized as the true heir of House Riegan, many thought Holst would succeed Duke Riegan as the new leader of the Alliance.

In 1180, Holst fell ill amidst an Almyran attack on Fódlan's Locket and Hilda was summoned to take over defense of the fortress in her brother's stead. Fortunately, his illness was merely food poisoning from eating a bad mushroom, and he was expected to make a full recovery shortly after the battle with the Almyrans ended.

After Claude's defeat and the merging Alliance and Imperial forces, Holst falls ill and sends a message to Edelgard to defend Fódlan's Locket in his stead.

In 1185, Holst made an agreement with Claude and Nader to allow the Almyran army to enter Fódlan, to assist in the capture of Fort Merceus.
Following the destruction of Shambhala and the resurrection of Nemesis, Holst led the Alliance forces in a battle to stop his violent rampage across Alliance territory. Hopelessly outmatched, Holst sustained serious injuries battling Nemesis, but bought enough time for his colleagues to retreat and send word to Claude at Garreg Mach.
Warriors: Three Hopes
In 1180, Holst sends a request for reinforcements, as the Locket is under attack from the largest Almyran force seen in a century. With the arrival of the Golden Deer students and additional forces, he successfully drives back the invasion spearheaded by the Almyran Prince Shahid.
In 1182, with the Empire having invaded deep into Alliance territory, Holst arrives to assist Claude's forces in the defense of the Alliance capital Derdriu. After the Imperial attack is thwarted, Holst joins up with Claude's main force to fight in the war with the Empire and Kingdom. He has a particular interest in challenging Count Bergliez, who is said to be his equal in strength and skill in the Empire, and engages him in man-to-man combat when the Alliance counter-invades the Empire through Bergliez territory.
Personality
Though unseen in Three Houses, Holst is a highly respected warrior who his little sister, Hilda, describes as a perfect. He cares deeply for his younger sister and often sends letters to her at numerous times during the war, usually sending her well wishes.
Holst makes a full appearance in Three Hopes, where his courage and valor is often displayed. In particular, during Golden Wildfire, Holst earned the mutual respect of Count Bergliez, a similarly legendary warrior in Fódlan. During downtime, Holst maintains his close relationship with his old friend Balthus, even going out to drink and party with him, knowing that Balthus would need help if he got into trouble. Fighting alongside his sister also brought out his doting side on his sister and is sometimes overbearingly affectionate with her, much to Hilda's embarrassment.

Trivia
- Holst shares his English voice actor, SungWon Cho, with Darros as he appears in Heroes.
- Although he is a Swordmaster, Holst wears a modified version of Three Houses' Hero uniform. It is possible he was made a Swordmaster because Hero is unavailable in Three Hopes.
- This is further evidenced by remnants of a male Hero class being leftover in the code of Three Hopes, being identical to the Mercenary but unable to use a class action.
- Holst's English voice actor, SungWon Cho, confirmed on his youtube channel, ProZD[1] that when playing through Three Houses, his favorite route was Verdant Wind.
