Solon had infiltrated the Garreg Mach Monastery under the guise of Tomas, pretending to be a faithful follower of the Church of Seiros. Tomas was the Monastery's librarian for over 40 years. Sometime after he had retired from his job, Solon killed him and assumed his identity to infiltrate the Monastery.
Using his position, he was able to learn much from the books stored in the library and has intimate knowledge of the Monastery's affairs. His identity is revealed after controlling the denizens of Remire Village.
Kronya, disguised as Monica, lures Byleth and their students to Sealed Forest with the intention of killing them. Much to Kronya's surprise, however, they are able to defeat her forces, and she attempts to flee as Byleth chases after her to avenge their father. Before Byleth can kill Kronya, Solon appears behind her, with Kronya interpreting his presence as a rescue. Instead of a rescue, Solon plunges his arm into Kronya's chest and rips her heart out, using her lifeforce to cast the Forbidden Spell of Zahras on Byleth, sending them into the void. Byleth's students then arrive, and Solon taunts them, claiming that he has removed their professor from the world.
Much to his surprise, however, Byleth escapes the void. Solon, knowing that nothing could escape the void, realizes that Sothis must have granted them her power to escape. He calls in a group of Agarthans and Demonic Beasts to finish them off, but is eventually killed in the ensuing battle, stating that Thales will continue their mission.

Prologue

In the Three Hopes timeline, Solon's true identity is outed much earlier. Following Shez's first mission with their class and the rescue of Monica, Monica reveals that Tomas was responsible for her kidnapping. Church soldiers confront Tomas on his return to the Monastery; with his cover blown, Solon sheds his disguise before using his magic to escape.
Solon does not appear again until late into Scarlet Blaze and Golden Wildfire, where he is at the center of the forces of Those Who Slither in the Dark sowing chaos in Hrym and Ordelia territories, with the bandits Pallardó and Metodey taking advantage of the unrest by stealing anything and killing anyone in their way.
If Shez recruited Byleth, they are eventually overtaken by Epimenides and chase Byleth to a remote mountain range with the intent of killing Byleth and Sothis. Solon, watching the duel unfold from afar, orders his forces to attack. Edelgard, Dimitri, or Claude are only able to temporarily contain the possessed Shez before they break free. When Solon is defeated, he attempts to retreat underground but is impaled by Shez's mysterious sword, and Epimenides uses the dark magic emanating from Solon's corpse to activate a portal to the dark realm of Zahras.
Personality
Solon is a sinister and austere tactician who prides himself on the conveyance of Those Who Slither in the Dark's ultimate goal of retaking control over Fódlan by any means necessary. He not only engages in unethical experimentation and manipulation of the inhabitants of the surface, but will also subject follow Agarthans to these cruel schemes for the supposed greater good. Like the majority of Agarthans, he holds supremacist views, denoting non-Agarthans as "beasts" and pridefully referring to himself as the "Savior" for retaliating against them. He is a skilled manipulator and actor, able to copy Tomas' mannerisms and idiosyncrasies to a degree that his peers were largely unable to accomplish in their own impersonations (i.e. Thales and Kronya). Despite his plethora of negative traits, Solon appears legitimately loyal to and respectful towards Thales, at least insofar as his ability to lead their people to victory is concerned.

Today, I'll be introducing you to Solon, the mysterious mage. Well, I'll do my best to, anyway. To be honest, I'm a little short on details, but I can tell you that he's from some dark corner of Fódlan...
![]() |
Rumor has it that Solon doesn't work alone, and he's actually a member of a certain organization that some refer to as those who slither in the dark. Creepy, but appropriate. Anyway, it seems they're acting in the shadows to carry out some kind of secret mission!

Solon is particularly well learned. In fact, he even knows spells that no other mage in Fódlan has ever heard of!

Still, I wonder what goal he's trying to achieve? I hate to snoop, but I've got to learn more!

Etymology
Solon of Athens was an Athenian legislator and poet who is often credited with laying the foundations for Athenian democracy. He is considered to be one of the Seven Sages of Greece.
Trivia
- Solon's class sprite is the same sprite used by Agastya, rather than using the typical Dark Bishop sprite.
- In the Super Smash Bros. series, Solon is one of the few characters to appear in a fighter's reveal trailer but never to appear in any of the games itself. He shares this distinction with Margie from the Animal Crossing series and Emperor Niall and his Blade Aegaeon from the Xenoblade Chronicles series.
- Unlike the aforementioned characters, who make mere cameos, Solon plays a more prominent role in Byleth's reveal trailer, sealing Byleth away into the darkness.
- Solon's in-game model uses a unique facial animation where he is will always keep his right eye open, as opposed to blinking with both eyes.
- Solon and Nemesis are the only enemy NPCs in Three Houses that have unique critical cut-ins, rather than the generic set.
- In addition to him having a unique critical cut-in, he is only one of 2 NPC units to have a unique gambit pose, the other being Jeralt.
- Solon's cane is actually part of his model.

- In Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Solon is ironically killed as a blood sacrifice to empower the same spell that he himself uses in Three Houses, in which he uses Kronya as the sacrifice.
