—Ratatoskr
Ratatoskr is a character in Fire Emblem Heroes and the lead character of Book VIII. The younger sister of Eikþyrnir, Heiðrún, Hræsvelgr and Níðhöggr, she is a member of the Healing Hands.
Profile
As Book VIII opens, Ratatoskr and her sisters have been tasked with goading the kingdoms of Askr and Embla into war by her father Læraðr in order to disrupt the burgeoning peace between the rival nations. Following the events in Vanaheimr, Askr is in preparations for a peace treaty ceremony when Ratatoskr appears and attempts to kill Alfonse. However, she cannot bring herself to follow through and spares Alfonse as the Order of Heroes capture her.
After learning from her that Læraðr is attempting to orchestrate a re-ignition of hostilities between Askr and Embla, Alfonse releases Ratatoskr and asks her to spy on the Healing Hands for Askr. She agrees to the task, but asks Alfonse to save her sisters as well, as Læraðr issued orders for them to kill themselves once their missions were complete. Alfonse instructs her to openly reveal to them that the Order of Heroes wants her to spy on her sisters. When she returns to Yggdrasill under Alfonse's instruction, Hræsvelgr subtly doubts Ratatoskr's allegiances but tells them that she will attack Alfonse. Ratatoskr returns and tells the Order of the plan. Sharena and Anna recommend fortifying Askr castle to safeguard Alfonse, but Alfonse decides to covertly travel alone to Embla to speak with Veronica to ensure that negotiations move forward. Before he leaves, he instructs Ratatoskr to return to Yggdrasill and inform them of his route down to the minute detail. In the middle of the night during his travel, Hræsvelgr ambushes him but he is able to fend her off long enough for the Order to come to his aid. The Order is shocked that he was attacked despite the covert operation, but Alfonse reveals that he intentionally had Ratatoskr feed them the accurate information as a means of reestablishing trust in her with her sisters.
Personality
Ratatoskr is a kind Divine Beast who dearly loves her family. Unlike her two older sisters who unhesitatingly obey their father's orders, Ratatoskr is far more reserved and saddened by the cruel nature of his orders. She has remarkable infiltration skills, having observed her target Alfonse for a considerable amount of time before acting. Her observation skills also make her an effective judge of character, which lead to her asking the Order of Heroes, specifically Alfonse, to save her sisters.
Timid to a fault, Ratatoskr is easily scared, hiding behind her tail when intimidated or embarrassed.

Etymology
Ratatoskr is a giant squirrel that resides in the branches of Yggdrasill carrying messages (mostly gossip) to an eagle perched on the top the tree and the serpent Níðhöggr at the bottom of the roots. The squirrel is often considered the messenger of the gods, but most of the time the squirrel tries to goad Níðhöggr and the eagle into destroy the tree by spreading insults.
Trivia
- Ratatoskr's outfit resembles that of a nurse, with her floppy cap resembling a nurse's cap.
- Ratatoskr is the second character in the Fire Emblem series with a conversation portrait that changes poses, the first being Mitama from Fates. In her case, she curls up and holds her tail when she gets scared.
- Originally, Ratatoskr's Meet Some of the Heroes guide had a translation error stating she came to Askr to assassinate her older brother rather than Sharena's older brother Alfonse.
- Ratatoskr shares her English voice actress, Madeline Dorroh, with Lara from Thracia 776 in Heroes.
