Profile

Nah is a half-breed Manakete born from Nowi and her husband. She bears unique traits as a Manakete, namely her unique pink coloration compared to Nowi and Tiki's yellow-green when transformed. Nah has few memories of her parents as a child as they perished fighting the Fell Dragon's forces. Orphaned, Nah was sent to a family of one of her father's army friends. She was treated poorly by her foster family because of her hybrid status, treating her as a monster. She attempted to appease them by doing the chores before being asked and fending off Risen at night. Despite all this, none of her foster family expressed gratitude or even acknowledged her. All of this instilled a deep sense of loneliness and sadness as she longed for her parents to come home.

When Lucina gathered the children of the Shepherds to travel to the past to prevent the rise of Grima, Nah decided to accompany her in hopes of reuniting with her parents.

Paralogue

In her Paralogue, Nah is lost in the Manor of Lost Souls and Risen soldiers have swarmed the manor. Luckily, Chrom's army is nearby with her mother, Nowi, who manages to find her. Nowi is ecstatic to meet another Manakete, though is confused by Nah's name. Nevertheless Nah joins Chrom's army after they leave the Manor. With nowhere to go, Nah offers to stay with Chrom's army, which Chrom happily accepts. Nah asks Nowi if she recognizes the ring on her finger. Nowi notices that it's the exact same ring as her ring from her husband. Nah explains that it is the exact same one which she got after Nowi died in the future. Nowi senses that Nah is fighting back tears, but Nah tells her since she is a Manakete, she must maintain a strong appearance. Nowi tells her it is okay since she cries a lot herself. Nah finally cries, happy to be reunited with her mother.

After the war, Nah spent the rest of her long life educating humans about Grima.

The Future Past

In an alternate timeline, Nah, alongside Cynthia, Noire, and Kjelle go off on a secret mission to recover the missing Gemstones for the Fire Emblem. The team is able to recover two of them, but are ambushed by Risen soldiers as they are resting. Separated from each other, surrounded and disarmed, the four accept their fate.

However, forces from another world appear, comprised of alternative versions of their parents in their prime. Among their forces are Nowi and Nah's father, who defeats the ambush and even takes time to encourage Nah to keep pushing forward.

After the battle, the warriors depart, leaving the girls to wonder who sent them to their aid as they quickly make their way back to Ylisstol. At the climax of the battle against Grima, the twelve children reunite with all five gemstones in hand, granting Lucina the power to slay the Fell Dragon.

Peace is restored to the realm and the world has begun recovering from the Fell Dragon's rampage. Over the course of six months, many of the survivors have begun coming to Nah, hailing her as a Manakete scion. She has begrudgingly become the new Voice of Naga as a result.

Personality

Though young chronologically age-wise in comparison to most Manaketes in the series, Nah is markedly mature for her age and appearance. Neglected by her foster family and used to performing tasks with no expectation of gratitude, Nah has superb emotional control and has bluntly stated that she is used to being disappointed. However, Nah craves attention and even basic emotional and familial support after being deprived of it for so long. Nah performs her tasks and roles simply to prove her worthiness. Due to her hybrid status, she was labeled a monster, which created a jaded belief that no human would view her any differently.

Despite her outward appearance of maturity, Nah still has moments of childishness and is essentially still a child in Manakete years. She can be somewhat possessive of people, especially in the cases of her support with Inigo and Gerome. Nah openly questions her father's intentions to marry Nowi, but immediately drops the subject when they snap at her for being rude. She uses her Manakete form as a threat, declaring that she will devour whomever is disturbing her.

She is proud of her Manakete heritage and is eager to learn all she can about the Manakete way of life once she arrived in the present timeline. She has inherited much of the Manakete's physical traits and has stated that she occasionally has feral urges which she unleashes from time to time in a secluded forest to prevent her allies from being caught during her rampages. She also has not mastered using Dragonstones yet and has noted that she is often exhausted after a battle. She strikes up a friendship with Tiki, but comes to terms with the fate of all Manaketes and their relationship with humans, namely that she will vastly outlive most of her comrades. She does vow to make the most of the time she has with her human friends and especially her father. According to her support with male Morgan, she can hear the voice of Naga, even becoming the new Voice of Naga in the Future Past story.

Nah is somewhat exasperated by her mother's carefree approach to life and childish behavior, unable to understand how her millennium aged mother can be so immature. While Nah desperately wants to study and learn, Nowi ropes her into friendly physical games. It is only after Nowi explains that her games are a means of training. Realizing how winded she was at the end of their game, Nah takes Nowi's reasoning to heart and earnestly declares that she will take playtime more seriously. With her father, she insistently wishes to learn all she can about her parents through him. Though they have a rough start, upon learning her feelings of disappointment, her father becomes more open to sharing with her any detail he can provide and promises to always be there for Nah for however long he can.

Nah also, to an extent, dislikes her unusual name and wishes that she had a much more normal one. She has the best teeth in the army.

Etymology

Nah is a colloquial way to say no, and is thematically similar to her mother's name "no way". It could also be based on the word gnaw referencing her having the best teeth in the army.

In Japanese, ンン, pronounced nn, can be a way to say "huh?" or to answer a question in the negative, making it thematically similar to her mother's Japanese name "no no".

Trivia

  • Nah's birthday is the same day that Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade was first released in Japan.
  • Nah's official artwork shows her with a Dragonstone.
  • According to Tiki, Nah is the first half-Manakete to have been born.
  • While not directly mentioned in Fates, Nah is referred to by Severa and the others in Hidden Truths 2, when they compared Anankos' destructive urges in the past to how Nah sometimes needs to destroy things, though Nah's destructive urges are weaker compared to Anankos' due to Anankos having more power.
  • Nah's mistreatment by her foster family due to her hybrid status is similar to how the Branded (who carried the blood of the Beorc and Laguz) were treated in the Tellius Series.
  • For some reason, Nah already looks like a teenager despite being a Manakete born no more than twenty years after Awakening's present; in contrast, Tiki, who is part of the same continuity, looks like a child when she first meets Marth despite being over 2,000 years old at the time. It is unknown whether this could be the result of an evolution of the Manaketes as a species, Nah's hybrid status, or a side-effect of the slumber Tiki was forced into during her early life.
  • During her A support with Yarne in the Japanese version, when Nah gets kidnapped, the noises she makes when her mouth is covered are spelled the same as her Japanese name, "Nn," so Yarne asks why she's calling her own name. This joke was lost in translation, where Yarne instead asks her to enunciate her words properly.
  • Nah shares her English voice actress, Eden Riegel, with Sumia, as well as Genny from Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
    • She also shares her Japanese voice actress, Rei Matsuzaki, with Olivia.
