Malice

“The name's Malice, Malice the mercenary. Remember that!”
—Malice's battle quote in Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem.

Malice is a female sellsword who first appeared in Part 3 of Fire Emblem: Archanea Saga: Thieves' Gang of Justice, along with her father, a Viking Fighter named Dice. She later appears in Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem.

Malice holds the distinction of being the first female Mercenary class unit in the series with her debut in Archanea Saga. However, her starting class in New Mystery of the Emblem was changed to Myrmidon, as was the case for other previously playable Mercenaries including Navarre and Radd.

Profile

Malice, like her father Dice, is a mercenary by trade. She lives a hardscrabble life, as her family's finances are continuously drained by Dice's love of gambling and terrible luck. She works hard to earn commissions in order to stay financially afloat.

Prior to the War of Shadows, Malice and her father were involved in a mission to steal treasure from the Archanean royal palace after its fall to Dolhr. Some years later, they forced their way into the ranks of Marth's army during the War of Heroes. Despite their intrusion and desire for high pay, their demand is for only a few hundred gold and easy for the army to oblige.

Following the conclusion of the war, Malice is rewarded with enough gold that she is able to open her own weapon shop.

Personality

Despite Dice's gambling habits leaving them both in a near constant state of poverty, Malice still loves him. In her mind, it's always possible to earn more gold, but she only has one father. She states a desire to sell weapons simply to have the means to buy bread. Because of the state of her finances, she is not well-acquainted with personal wealth and as a result, she seemingly undervalues her own services as a mercenary.

Malice is very strong offensively, though her high base defense is outweighed by her low growth. Her growth rate in resistance is twice of the average, even if she still cannot be thrown into a bunch of magic users and be expected to survive.

Meet Some of the Heroes

Deft Sellsword Malice
Here's Malice, a wandering mercenary! She and her father, Dice, were recruited by Marth to fight alongside the Altean army.
Malice always has money on her mind, but not without good reason. As it turns out, Dice has a bit of a gambling habit, and he doesn't always have the best of luck...
Still, Malice loves her father, and the two get along well. Not exactly what I'd expect from someone called Malice, so that's a pleasant surprise!
Through her mercenary work, Malice does her best to repair the family finances. She's clearly a capable swordswoman, but she gets painfully shy when someone pays her a compliment. In fact, she gets so flustered that she often ends up brandishing her sword in respo— Yikes! Watch out!

Meet Some of the Heroes

Blooming Blade Malice
Malice is a mercenary who wanders the continent of Archanea trying to make a living alongside her father, Dice. For this appearance, she's joining the celebrations at the festival in Jehanna, the desert kingdom!
Here's the Jehanna-style outfit that Malice has prepared for the festival. The outline closely resembles her typical attire, but the addition of traditional decorations here and there makes for a truly outstanding look!
She's also equipped herself with a sword that's ornamented with Jehanna-style flair. With its curved cutting edge, it's a perfect fit for Malice's distinctive swordplay!
Dice's love of gambling often leaves Malice trying to clear up his debts. I hear she's already been showing off her sword skills to turn the festival into a money-making opportunity!
Closely Associated Characters

Malice and Male Kris base conversation 1

  • Kris: Miss Malice.
  • Malice: Er, you are...
  • Kris: Kris.
  • Malice: Yeah, the guy always milling around Prince Marth, right?
  • Kris: Wha!
  • Malice: You sayin' I'm wrong?
  • Kris: No... Well, whatever.
  • Malice: So, whadya want from me?
  • Kris: I saw you fighting during the previous battle. It was a style I had never seen before... Self-taught?
  • Malice: Yeah.
  • Kris: It looked way too elegant for something martialー ...Eh!?
  • Malice: Whadya say?
  • Kris: W-why did you draw your weapon?
  • Malice: Well, it was just your first offense. I'll forgive you. ...You know about my Pops, right?
  • Kris: Yeah. I heard he loves gambling.
  • Malice: Damn old geezer. No matter how much gold we have at home, he uses it up in the blink of an eye. That's why I learned this fencing, for show.
  • Kris: I see.
  • Malice: Oh, right. Wanna see it?
  • Kris: Oh, of course! Please do show me. ...Hm? What's with the open hand?
  • Malice: Gold. Who said I'd show you for free?

Malice and Male Kris base conversation 2

  • Malice: That's the speed... And now, jump!
  • Kris: Got it!
  • Malice: Stop moving the moment you fall!
  • Kris: Eeh!? How am I suppoー!
  • Malice: ...Did you fall?
  • Kris: Yes, as you can plainly see... You aside, Miss Malice, I'd say it's almost impossible for anyone to pull off that stunt.
  • Malice: Well, I'd be in a lotta trouble if people could mimic me that easily. But you seem different from the usual buff guys. You were close enough.
  • Kris: I-is that so? It's all thanks to my grandfather.
  • Malice: Oh yes, one more thing.
  • Kris: Hm?
  • Malice: I appreciate the fact you didn't ask me why I chose the way of the sword, despite being a woman.
  • Kris: Yeah. For a knight, there's no difference between man and woman, after all.
  • Malice: ...Oh?
  • Kris: But well, when you're quiet, you do look rather elegantー Wha...!
  • Malice: When I'm quiet, I what? Do you want to die?
  • Kris: N-no. I'd prefer not to, thanks. But more importantly, I wonder if... Could you lower this dangerous knife that's lodged rather close to my neck?
  • Malice: ...Hmph. Next time, I'll be twice as deadly as this!
  • Kris: But weren't you the one who started the subject this time, Miss Malice...?

Malice and Male Kris base conversation 3

  • Malice: ...And it's all over.
  • Kris: So this is your fencing, Miss Malice...! Malice: Aren't you glad? Your grandfather's gold was put to good use.
  • Kris: Yes. But how do I say this? Those movements... It looked like I was watching shooting starsー Wha...!? Wait! I was just praising your fencing!
  • Malice: Indeed you were.
  • Kris: Then why are you pointing your sword towards me!?
  • Malice: I don't know either. But when you praised me, I felt excited.
  • Kris: So you mean to say you felt embarrassed...!?
  • Malice: What did you say? Do you want to die?
  • Kris: No, I choose to live! I choose to live, because I want to keep admiring your fencing.
  • Malice: ... Very well. Then I'll show you my fencing. I don't need money. But, in return...
  • Kris: What?
  • Malice: Praise me. I want to be praised by you, more and more. I don't know why.
  • Kris: Yes, I don't mind. I know many, many of your good points after all, Miss Malice.
