Niger

Niger is a Tier II nation located in West Africa . Niger can only form the African Union.

Background

The area that is today the country of Niger has been inhabited for thousands of years. Early in history, Niger was an important crossroads for trading and was part of many African empires such as the Songhai Empire, Mali Empire, and Bornu.

In recent history, Niger has seen large groups of the nomadic Tuareg peoples form confederations. These confederations clashed with the Fulani Empire of Sokoto in the late 18th Century.

The first European explorers to the land were British explorer Mungo Park and German explorer Heinrich Barth in the 1800s. The French showed up later and began to colonize the area. In 1922, Niger became a French colony.

Niger became on independent country in 1960. Since then, it has been marred with civil war, poverty, military coups, and famine. It is unfortunately one of the poorest countries in the world.

Base Statistics

Economy

Niger earns $204,143 from tax and $64,332 from resources. This adds up to a total income of $268,475. It spends $40,000 on military upkeep at the beginning of the game.

Resources

Niger produces a small yet diverse number of resources. Unquestionably Niger's greatest mineral asset is its Uranium deposits. These are located in the southeast of the country, near the border with Nigeria. The cities that have these resources are Zinder, Gouré, and Nguigmi. Coincidentally, these same cities also produce Gold and Oil, meaning it may be a worthwhile investment to place mines over them.

Strategy

Niger is surrounded by mostly weak countries, except for Nigeria, which is not rare for people to play as. It is hard to play as Niger due to its low population, manpower, and massive border with Nigeria. Early on in the game, Nigeria will usually go after you to expand their territory. Nigeria, however, does not need you for any formables, so remember that negotiating a diplomatic solution should be possible unless Nigeria wants to form the African Union straight away. Once you have finished this you can proceed to comfortably take over the rest of your neighbors. Refrain from taking Chad, however, due to the fact that Nigeria needs it for the Sokoto Caliphate. Unless Nigeria clearly goes for Gold Coast, don't take Chad.
