Laos is a Tier II nation located in Southeast Asia . It is the weakest country in Southeast Asia that has more than one city.
Background
Laos, officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic, is a socialist state and the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia. At the heart of the Indochinese Peninsula, Laos is bordered by Myanmar and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the southeast and Thailand to the west and southwest.
Laos is a member of the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement, the ASEAN, East Asia Summit, and La Francophonie. Laos applied for membership of the World Trade Organization in 1997; on 2 February 2013, it was granted full membership. It is a one-party socialist republic, espousing Marxism–Leninism governed by the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. The politically and culturally dominant Lao people make up 53.2% of the population, mostly in the lowlands. Mon-Khmer groups, the Hmong, and other indigenous hill tribes live in the foothills and mountains. Laos' strategies for development are based on generating electricity from rivers and selling the power to its neighbours, namely Thailand, China, and Vietnam, as well as its initiative to become a "land-linked" nation, as evidenced by the construction of four new railways connecting Laos and neighbours. Laos has been referred to as one of Southeast Asia and Pacific's fastest growing economies by the World Bank with annual GDP growth averaging 7.7% since 2009. |

Strategy
Your first move would be to ally China. After, annex
Burma, because it is usually weak and not player controlled. Also, you need it to form the South-Eastern Asia Federation. Then, once you have at least 100k troops, annex
Thailand. If
Thailand is player-controlled, ask
China, which you should have allied a long time ago, to help you in the war. Send a 100k division to take the capital. Send Chinese forces to south
Thailand. Conquer the north and middle with a 60k division. Use Mandalay in
Burma to create tanks to help take the capital. You should have taken over
Thailand by now. Now, aim for
Cambodia and
Vietnam.
Cambodia should be good but
Vietnam may be a problem. Send a 70k and 40k division to conquer the south. Send a 100-200k division for the capital. Then put the division on auto-capture. Now, annex
Malaysia using troops from
Thailand. Now may be a little hard, annexing
Indonesia. If AI, great, you can just annex it. If not, build up a strong navy to take Indonesian troops when they come. Send a total of 1-1.5m troops in all. Send about 142k-200k forces to each island. Develop about 5k tanks. If they have a navy take down theirs with 4-5 submarines. Send armies to each island. Send 500k to their capital, 2k tanks and a bomber if you want. Finally, take over all the islands and lands in and around
Indonesia, such as
Papua New Guinea or the
Philippines. You should have a sweet empire by now. Feel free to annex anybody, because now you should be high up on the rankings.
Trivia
- Laos is one of the few nations with a different starter ideology (socialism), which might give it a slight boost for expansion.
