Estonia

Estonia is a Tier II nation in the Baltic region of Europe . Unfortunately, it is the least populous of the Baltic States. Estonia can form a total of 4 different formables, but it is usually not recommended to play as this country due to it usually being invaded by Russia or Finland early on.

Background

Estonia is a country located in Northern Europe. It is bordered by the Baltic Sea to the west and shares land borders with Latvia to the south and Russia to the east. Estonia also has maritime borders with Finland and Sweden.

Estonia gained independence from Russia in 1918 but was later occupied by the Soviet Union during World War II. It regained its independence in 1991 following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since then, Estonia has undergone significant political and economic reforms and has emerged as one of the most developed countries in the region.

Tallinn is the capital and largest city of Estonia. The country is known for its rich cultural heritage, including its distinctive language, Estonian, which belongs to the Finno-Ugric language family. Estonia is also known for its advanced digital infrastructure and e-governance, with many public services being offered online.

Estonia is a member of the European Union, NATO, and the Eurozone. The economy is characterized by a strong information technology sector, a developed service sector, and a growing focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. The country has a high standard of living and is often ranked highly in terms of human development, education, and economic freedom.

Formables

Releasables

Estonia has no releasables.

Threats, with the formables being:

Estonia is in a vulnerable position, surrounded by Finland, Sweden, and Russia. Your main threats while playing as Estonia are:

Strategy

There are 2 paths for Estonia which are either playing defensive or expansionist. I will cover Defensive but Expansionist is still WIP.

Defensive

Make 3 Electronic factories and sell all the electronics. Enact the military service policy and massed attack doctrine. Now create a line of troops and artillery behind it. If Russia justifies before you can get a border wall with units, there is no way Estonia could win unless Russia is bad at the game. Do not bother creating tanks as Estonia does not have a square city. Buy the resources to fuel an aircraft manufactory, or buy the aircraft parts directly if other nations already have them. Assuming the baltics are AI (which is the most likely case) use artillery to shred their Home Guard and conquer them. Now, the player can form the United Baltic Federation.

Taking Finland

Make sure you have a strong economy able to handle an even larger Russian front. You also to want put about 60% of your forces there because Russia will be targeted on taking your capital most likely, If you can push back Russia on the Kola peninsula, you could flank offensive units and guarantee that Russia will not be able to counterattack.

Not Taking Finland

Get a navy in the north Baltic sea to protect from Russian forces moving through Finland. Also put a small amount of your Air Force there. Russia would most likely abandon moving through Finland and continue invading in other areas.

If Russia Takes Finland

Follow the steps in not taking Finland.

Now Russia most likely doesn't want to declare now, but if they do, you should be able to easily overwhelm them. If they Artillery spam, use infantry spam. Same for tanks. If they spam infantry, spam artillery. You are probably now able to invade them and watch as their tiny divisions get pummelled by your amazing army, and you have now done it as Estonia!

Expansionist

To expand easily, it is basically nessicary to ally with Russia, if Russia does not accept any alliance request, it is highly encouraged to refer to the Defensive strategy. When you start, make 2 Electronic Factories and sell all electronics. Turn Government Spending and Military Spending to max once you have a stable economy from your electronic trades. Then, make 40-50k troops to prepare taking the Baltics. It is optional but highly recommended to enact Specialization and Adaptation doctrine and train all your troops for Winter Specialization for more infantry experience and to fight easier during winter.

Forming

Once you have gotten a small army of ~60-70k men, declare war on the Baltics. Use AI luring to destroy the home guard both Latvia and Lithuania. You can now form the United Baltic Federation. Do the same with Finland and form Finnic Union. After you form, build Recruitment Stations(?) and develop your cities. Remember to develop your cities as you contonue expanding.

Trivia

  • Approximately 2 Millions Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians made a human chain from Tallinn to Riga, spanning 675 Kilometers, or 420 Miles. (Source)
  • Estonians are culturally and ethnically much more Nordic/Scandinavian than their Baltic brothers and sisters to the south.
  • If you wait long enough, Estonia will look like it gained land in Russia but its just because the city inside of Russia that's part of Estonia grew in population
  • After World War II, Estonia had an anti-Soviet insurgency led by the Forest Brothers, who carried out armed attacks and sabotage against the Soviet forces during the 1940s.
