Gibraltar

Gibraltar is a Tier II nation that is located in the Mediterranean Sea, between Spain and Morocco.

Gibraltar is in an unenviable position, being a weak nation in a strategically important location. It is at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, being the country that separates the Mediterranean Sea from the Atlantic.

Background

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It has an area of 6.7 km2 (2.6 sq mi) and is bordered to the north by Spain. The landscape is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar at the foot of which is a densely populated town area, home to over 32,000 people, primarily Gibraltarians.

In 1704, Anglo-Dutch forces captured Gibraltar from Spain during the War of the Spanish Succession on behalf of the Habsburg claim to the Spanish throne. The territory was ceded to Great Britain in perpetuity under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. During the Napoleonic Wars and World War II it was an important base for the Royal Navy as it controlled the entrance and exit to the Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Gibraltar, which is only 14.3 km (8.9 mi) wide at this naval choke point. It remains strategically important, with half the world's seaborne trade passing through the strait. Today Gibraltar's economy is based largely on tourism, online gambling, financial services and bunkering.

The sovereignty of Gibraltar is a point of contention in Anglo-Spanish relations because Spain asserts a claim to the territory. Gibraltarians rejected proposals for Spanish sovereignty in a 1967 referendum and, in a 2002 referendum, the idea of shared sovereignty was also rejected.

On 31 January 2020, the UK and Gibraltar left the European Union. In December 2020, the UK and Spain agreed in principle to negotiate an agreement through which Gibraltar would participate in the Schengen Area.

Cities

Gibraltar has one single city, also named Gibraltar.

Interestingly, if you formed Gibraltar's formable Al Andalus, the name of the capital will change to Al Andalus. This bug is shared with other nations that have their capitals and country names be named the same, such as Kuwait, Singapore, and Guatemala, but that formable is not in the game anymore.

Threats

The threats to Gibraltar's existence are few, but those who have an interest in the nation are usually quite strong. They are as follows:

Strategy

Firstly, you should make an electronic factory and buy the necessary resources to make it function (2 Gold and 2 Copper). Get research for factory output 2 since you only have a single city. Once you have your electronic factories sell them to AI countries that can afford it, most commonly Brazil or India. Afterwards justify on Senegal and use AI luring and Force Peacing to annex it easier. Once you have annexed Senegal, make a motor factory and steel factory and buy the required resources to have it run. Once you have made the factories buy oil and make tanks with your square city and transport your tanks to Morocco and annex it. Continue making tanks until you have a good amount to start expanding colonially or fight people in European by building a navy. If you are weak compared to the other nations in Europe you can attempt allying big countries like India, China, and the USA however don't depend on it as it's unreliable. Create recruiting centers on your country. If fighting players in Europe, use Blitzkrieg or a sneak attack against them to surprise them. Make sure your enemy is weaker or less experienced than you because if you attack countries that are larger, they will most likely capital snipe you which gives you war exhaustion and low stability.

Another good strategy (I used and worked) is first, Ally Spain and invade Portugal or sometimes the tables might turn with Allying Portugal and invading Spain. If you Ally Portugal wait until Spain takes all forces away from you and focuses on Portugal begin advancing through Spain and take Madrid. After that when Portugal leaves take Portugal and if France is AI invade it. From there ally United Kingdom and if it is still there Germany. Begin to advance into Africa and take Morocco, Algeria and other nations not conquered. Since you allied United KIngdom you can march mass amounts of troops and tanks through and invade Iceland and Greenland. If United States has formed North American Union ask to buy the northern part of Canada. This usually works and don't forget about Europe since Russia is usually on a rampage ally them. From there ally China and if they are invading United States join the war and Blitzkrieg through Canada and the Eastern coast of United States. Buy land in the middle east and you are basically a world superpower.
