Light Core

The Light Core^[1] (ライトコア^[2], Raito Koa^?) is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are orbs invented and researched by Rimlight in hopes for developing a cleaner energy. They are used to charge the Action Gauge.

Description

Essentially, Light Cores resemble small, glowing crystalline orbs. Light Cores are usually orange, but can also be green, as seen in Town Missions and Action Stages, such as Aquatic Base and Wave Ocean.

Overview

In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), the technology for Light Cores was developed as a robotic power source by the Rimlight Corporation of Soleanna. Dr. Eggman, however, raided their offices in Soleanna New City to steal the technology and use it in his own robots.

In gameplay, the Light Cores can fill up a small part of the Action Gauge, akin to the Chaos Drive. They are released from enemies such as Iblis' minions, shadows, and Mephiles's monstrous form once they are destroyed, after which they are absorbed by the playable character.
