- Not to be confused with the 2019 animation, Chao In Space.

Chao in Space is an in-universe film series that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. As the name implies, it is centered around the Chao.
Description
The Chao in Space advertisements take the form of posters, all of which appear in the city-themed levels of the games they are in. These posters show various Chao species as well as characters that have connections to them, such as Tikal and Chaos. The films appear to star Chao in their main roles and are credited as "Sonic Team films". On the Chao in Space: The Search for Tikal billboard in Sonic Generations and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, there are some typos with the names of the characters credited below.
List of films
- Chao in Space: The first film in the series, announced in a billboard in Station Square during the Chaos incident. The film also saw a "Collector's Edition" re-release later on.
- Chao in Space 2: The second film, announced during the Space Colony ARK incident. The film had a release date of "4 July".
- Chao in Space III: Little is known about this film, with the only thing confirming its existence being torn down billboards in Crisis City in a ruined incarnation of Silver's future.
- Chao in Space 4: Little is known about this film, with it's only appearance being on a billboard in Speed Highway's entrance in White Space.
- Chao in Space: The Search for Tikal: A film first shown during the Time Eater incident. Appears to feature Tikal and the Death Egg Robot. It is unknown whether this film is related to the first Chao in Space film.
- Chao in Space 2: Perfect Chaos Strikes Back: A film first shown during the Time Eater incident. Appears to feature Perfect Chaos as an antagonist. It is unknown whether this film is related to the original Chao in Space 2 film.
Trivia
- The Chao in Space franchise appears to be a parody of the Star Wars series, with Chao in Space 2: Perfect Chaos Strikes Back in particular referencing The Empire Strikes Back, the second film in the Star Wars original trilogy.

- In 2017, Shiro Maekawa, the writer of Sonic Adventure 2 and various other games in the 2000s, posted on Twitter a proposal for a manga series centered in Chao in Space that he had drawn in 2001.[1][2]
- At least two films in the series were produced by "Sonic Team", the real-world developer of the mainline Sonic games. The two films shown in Sonic Generations also appeared to be produced "by Sonic the Hedgehog".

- The poster of Chao in Space: The Search for Tikal misspells various character names, which include:
- The name of Chao in Space: The Search for Tikal is likely a reference to the sci-fi film Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

- On 4 May 2019, the official Sonic social media posted a poster of the fictional Chao in Space HD, with the description "May the 4th be with you", which is the date of Star Wars Day. The poster contains references to Chaos, Cream, Chocola, Cheese, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles and is a parody of the poster for the Star Wars film The Force Awakens.
