Wind switch

The Wind switch,[1] also known as the Green Orb,[2] is a gimmick that first appears in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Using the Wind switch will create a Grind Rail of air that can be used for transport.

Description

The Wind switch is a vertical column that possesses an eagle statue on the top and a long horizontal bar with a glowing green orb collared to the column.

Overview

Wind switch

Wind switches are found exclusively in Kingdom Valley. Their purpose is to create Grind Rails made from white jet streams which the player can travel on by Grinding. The Wind switches can be activated by using a Homing Attack on their signature orb which will when manifest the Grind Rail nearby (the player will automatically lock onto it). If the player is using Silver or Tails, the Wind Switch can be activated by jumping into the green orb.

Trivia

  • It is not advisable to use the Homing Attack to activate the Wind switch when Shadow is using Chaos Boost because the Chaos Boost's mechanics will cause the Wind switch to not be activated and as well risk the player of falling into a bottomless pit. Therefore, the player has to either avoid the usage of the Chaos Boost, or to position the direction of the Homing Attack at the end of the horizontal bar directly.
  • In the game's files, Wind switches are capable of creating up to four different paths of wind, however in the final game, only a single Wind switch will create two paths.
