Texas is a Tier III releasable of the United States, located in North America . It borders the United States and Mexico, as well as the other releasables Nuevo Leon, Aztlan, and the Confederate States of America. Due to it's status as a releasable and being overshadowed by others in the area, Texas is rarely played. While it is one of the continent's more mid-range releasables in terms of power, it still has a lot of potential.

Background

The following is taken from Wikipedia which is licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0. You can view the article it was taken from here.

The lands of Texas were first colonized by the Spanish Empire, which then became Mexican territory after the revolution in 1821. Texas was the site of mass immigration from the United States into Mexico, and many Anglo-Americans settled there, where they quickly became the majority. The Texans, however, were disobedient to the Mexican government and therefore Americans were banned from immigrating to Mexico and measures were put into place. This angered the Texans, and after attempts by Mexican President Santa Anna to make it a Centralist State, it revolted in 1835 and declared the Republic of Texas as a sovereign nation, with its own constitution.

The war resulted in mostly Texan victories until Santa Anna marched a force of 6,000 into Texas and resulted in a battle at the Alamo Mission where Texans held out for 13 days until they were all captured and executed. At the Battle of San Jacinto which lasted 18 minutes, Santa Anna was captured and he was forced to surrender. However, Texas got annexed after the Mexican-American War of 1845. Texas granted military access to the United States, and John Tyler marched troops across the Nueces River ( Mexico's claimed border with Texas), because the United States and Texas claimed the border was at the Rio Grande, which was 400 miles farther south. Mexican troops massacred the American troops, with which the United States responded with a declaration of war. The United States easily pushed the Mexicans back and won the war. After Texas's constitution was accepted, it skipped the territory phase and became the 28th state.

Texas later declared independence again in 1861 to join the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. However, the Confederate States of America was still unpopular in the state and participated in few battles until the Confederate States of America defeat in 1865 and Texas was forced to rejoin the United States. Texas has remained as an American state ever since the American Civil War, and has in the past few decades grown to become one of the powerful states in the union.

Base Statistics

Economy

The base economy of Texas starts off at $1,026,619 income. $1,007,818 of this comes from tax income, while the other $18,801 comes from resources. Due to it's status as a releasable, and therefore its unlikely chances of appearing during the first few months of the game, it is likely that these statistics will be different by the time it is released.

Resources

Texas produces 2.1 units of Oil every turn.

Oil +2.06

Military

When released, Texas begins with the Volunteer conscription law. It's base manpower capacity is 473,910, with an initial increase of 1,566 per turn. As is the case with it's economy, these statistics are likely to be different by the time that Texas is released. An additional consequence of being a releasable is that Texas does not start with any home guard units, and furthermore, technically starts off with 0 manpower.

Geography

Terrain and Biome

Biomes of Texas

While a majority of Texas is flat, it overlays apart of the Chihuahua Desert and the Sierra Madre mountain ranges, which is incorporated majorly by Mexico. Biome wise, the state is effectively split into a half with no biome, and a half that is Arid. The biome split largely reflects the state's population and in-game city distribution, with the no biome areas consisting of the eastern half of the state plus a small area in the Northern half of the state, and the entire western and southern regions being Arid.

Borders

Texas is near entirely surrounded by the United States, except for the south, where it has a border with Mexico. If all United States releasable are independent, then Texas will be bordering the Confederate States of America to the east (through Louisiana and Arkansas) and Aztlan to the west (through New Mexico). The southeast part of the country does not border any nation due to the Gulf of Mexico.

Cities

Texas has 51 cities, mostly in the eastern part of the state. Four major cities—Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin—form the "Texas Triangle," a megaregion with 19 million people out of the state's 23 million population, and 31 cities out of the state's 51 total. While Austin is the real-world capital, the game generally places the capital in the largest city available. In most cases, this tends to be Dallas.

In contrast from the eastern portion of the state, the western part is sparsely populated, with only eight cities and about 1.8 million people. El Paso, near the Mexican and New Mexican borders, is the largest, with 850k people. Beyond El Paso, cities in this area tend to lie around the 100k-200k range. In southern Texas, near the Mexico border, nine cities house 2 million people, with McAllen and Corpus Christi being the largest.

Politics

Ideology

As a releasable, Texas starts off with the Non-Aligned ideology.

Formables

Texas does not have any formables.

Threats

  • The Confederate States of America may want to form the Golden Circle, or will generally expand into you.
  • The United States will possibly reintegrate the independent releasables.
  • Mexico is a stronger neighbor that is situated on the Texan border, meaning it is not common that it will invade northwards.
  • Canada or Mexico attempting to form the North American Union.
  • Any other American breakaway releasable conquering Texas, and eventually uniting the United States under a different banner. Powerful competitors include: California and New England.
  • Outside powers from different continents may grow their nation in North America should the U.S. releasables declare independence.

Strategy

The difficulty of playing as Texas, and consequentially any strategies while playing as it, are mainly dependent on whether or not the United States and Mexico are A.I., which is rare due to how often these countries are played. Under most circumstances, the United States would likely attempt to forcefully reintegrate you, while Mexico would typically view Texas (or any American releasables, for that matter) as easy pickings for expansion. Attempting to ally or negotiate with one of them or both is likely going to be essential to your survival. If either of these countries attempt to annex you, they will likely do so early on as to prevent you from having any chance to prepare your military or economy. As a result, combined with the lack of natural defenses in Texas and available resources to a freshly released country, survival in a war against either or both of the two will be extremely difficult.

If you manage to beat them in a war, or become allies, then Texas gameplay largely boils down to whatever you wish to do. Due to the state's lack of formables, playing as Texas does not come with any specific goals to aim for. Expansion into the Caribbean would be fairly non-demanding, with easy-to-invade countries such as Cuba and Jamaica being within very close proximity of Texas. Furthermore, there is also the option of expansion into South America , or Central American countries like Panama.

Trivia

  • Texas borders were once distorted before it was heavily revamped on October 4th, 2022. Examples include: the state did not own Dallas, but instead had Oklahoma City, which belongs to the Confederate States of America.
  • It was one of the first releasables ever added to the game on 5/25/2019, alongside the Confederate States of America.
  • If Texas was independent today, it would have the biggest military reserves out of all states combined.
  • It snowed in Texas not once, but twice. Rumor has it that it may have even snowed there three times!
  • Even though Texas was part of the Confederate States of America historically, Texas isn't a part of it in the game.
