Background
Hunan (湖南) is a province located in south-central China, with its capital in Changsha. It is bordered by Hubei to the north, Jiangxi to the east, Guangdong to the southeast, Guangxi to the southwest, Guizhou to the west, and Chongqing municipality to the northwest. Hunan has a population of over 68 million people as of 2020, making it the seventh most populous province in China. The name Hunan literally means "south of the lake".
Hunan is known for its rich cultural and historical heritage, as well as its beautiful natural scenery. The province is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, which features stunning sandstone pillars, and the Yueyang Tower, a historic tower that overlooks the Dongting Lake.
Hunan is also famous for its cuisine, which is spicy and flavorful and features many unique dishes, such as Hunan-style hot pot, stinky tofu, and spicy chicken. The province is also known for its famous figures, including Chairman Mao Zedong, who was born in the city of Shaoshan in Hunan.
