Lombardy

This article is about Lombardy. You may be looking for Kingdom of Lombards.

Lombardy is one of the various releasables of Italy, being located in the Lombardy region of the Italian peninsula. It was added along with other releasables on 11/11/2022.

Background

Lombardy is an administrative region of Italy that covers 23,844 km2 (9,206 sq mi); it is located in the northern-central part of the country and has a population of about 10 million people, constituting more than one-sixth of Italy's population. Over a fifth of the Italian gross domestic product (GDP) is produced in the region.

Base Statistics

Economy

As stated previously, the Lombardy region accounts for more than one-sixth of the entire Italian population and a fifth of the GDP, though it starts off pretty weak once released. Granting it huge taxes ($293,700) and an opportunity for active city development.

Resources

Lombardy produces no resources.

Geography

The whole region is covered with flat terrain and the normal biome, though as stated above it's located south of the Alps. It's affected by Mild Winter in December and January.

Borders

Lombardy is located in close proximity to most Italian releasables, so if you're quick enough you can take advantage of a collapsed Italy. Its position south of the Alps protects it from Germany to the north and potentially France to the west, though that potential isn't often taken advantage of due to countries rushing to conquer the collapsed Italy.

Cities

Lombardy has 3 cities (from biggest to smallest): Milan (the capital), Como and Bergamo. The capital, Milan, is the second most populous Italian city, only behind Rome. Lombardy starts off with around 3.45M population,

Threats

  • Germany, France or even Spain expanding.
  • Other countries picking up pieces of the collapsed Italy.
  • Other Italian releasables expanding.

Strategy

Releasing Lombardy

This should be pretty simple. Pick Italy, start a liberation war against San Marino, collapse it, and release all your nations via concede terms.

Starting off

First things first, make 2 electronic factories, buy 4 copper and 4 gold just before they finish, sell electronics in units of 5 per country. Due to your massive resource bonus in the densely populated city of Milan, you're able to instantly afford making Steel and Motor factories, so proceed to do that. Buy oil and make tanks.

Expanding/reuniting Italy

Justify on the collapsed Italian nations, preferably starting with Piedmont and Venetia. Start developing cities, get access to the Mediterranean via Liguria, get the rest of the countries necessary and form Padania for that sweet stability boost. Start moving into central Italy. Fortunately for you, Germany will likely not move into the region yet because you've taken most of the big releasables (though it's always best to ally them), so take advantage of that. Finish off Italy by taking Naples and Sicily. Build all the factories necessary to run a couple of Civilian Factories.

Gaining colonies

By this point in the game you should consider getting colonies for more resources and/or cities to develop, but staying on your mainland and developing Italy under your new rule is also an option. If you are getting colonies, some good options would be Tunisia, Portugal, the middle east (if they still exist), and Morocco. You may also go as far as west Africa due to their extensive resources and population.

Trivia

  • The Alpine division reaches a height of 4,049 meters in the Bernina, although that's not reflected in-game.
  • Milan, the regional capital, has been recognized as one of the world’s four fashion capitals thanks to several international events and fairs, including Milan Fashion Week and the Milan Furniture Fair, which are currently among the world’s biggest in terms of revenue, visitors and growth.
  • The word "Lombardy" comes from Lombard, which in turn is derived from Late Latin Longobardus, Langobardus ("a Lombard"), derived from the Proto-Germanic elements *langaz + *bardaz – equivalent to long beard.
  • In the 5th Century BC, Lombardy was inhabited by the Celtic peoples but was soon conquered by the Romans two centuries later, where it also became part of the Cisalpine Gaul (A Roman Province).
