Provence, also known as Provença, or Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, is a releasable of France, that was added on February 7th, 2023.
Background
Provence (/prəˈvɒ̃s/, US also /proʊˈ-/, UK also /prɒˈ-/, French: [pʁɔvɑ̃s] (listen), locally [pχoˈvã(n)sə]; Occitan: Provença (in classical norm) or Prouvènço (in Mistralian norm), pronounced [pʀuˈvɛnsɔ]) is a geographical region and historical province of southeastern France, which extends from the left bank of the lower Rhône to the west to the Italian border to the east; it is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the south. It largely corresponds with the modern administrative region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and includes the departments of Var, Bouches-du-Rhône, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, as well as parts of Alpes-Maritimes and Vaucluse. The largest city of the region and its modern-day capital is Marseille. The Romans made the region the first Roman province beyond the Alps and called it Provincia Romana, which evolved into the present name. Until 1481 it was ruled by the Counts of Provence from their capital in Aix-en-Provence, then became a province of the Kings of France. While it has been part of France for more than 500 years, it still retains a distinct cultural and linguistic identity, particularly in the interior of the region. |

Geography
Terrain
Provence is split into two terrain bridges, the western half covered in Semi-Mountainous landscapes with the other half rugged with Mountainous topographical lands.
Biome
The entirety of Provence is normal biome.
Borders
Provence borders the starting nations of Italy and
Monaco. It also borders the releasables of
Savoy,
Occitania,
Piedmont, and
Liguria. It also shares a maritime border with the releasable of
Corsica.
Cities
Provence has four cities, with the largest one and likely capital being Marseille, and the second largest being Nice, which directly borders the starting nation of Monaco.
Threats
France may wish to reintegrate you.
- Any nation near, including
United Kingdom, Germany, or
Italy, may declare a war on you and other
French releasables, to then form including
Franco-British Union,
European Union or
German Empire.
Occitania forming the
Great Occitania.
Strategy
Offense
This assumes all releasables of France are independent alongside Provence.
Creation of a small army should go underway immediately, alongside a justification and then invasion on Savoy and
Corsica, which are rarely players, but if are players, are generally weaker than Provence.
Monaco can also be invaded if you so choose, however the starting infantry unit may pose a threat to Nice. The main priority here should be speed, and rapid movements before the other releasables could become players, or other countries, especially
Germany, have a chance to expand into your region.
Alongside the small army, you should begin constructing your industry with Steel Factories and Motor Factories to get tanks, which will be needed to speed up the process. For an easier early game economy, you can also sell these alongside Electronics to A.I. Nations in small numbers, or take a bit longer to get
Consumer Goods to sell to A.I. in greater numbers for greater profit. However, a fully trade based economy without developing your territory could lead to consequences later on, so be sure to continue developing your cities, and construct Recruitment Centers fairly early on.
After getting tanks, invade Occitania with them. Tanks are not necessary, but they will speed up the process. greatly. If not already done earlier, around now would also be the time to invade
Monaco, as tanks should stop them from being able to automatically capture Nice. Since
Catalonia and
Basque also release one city each from France, invading the two should also be done around now.
Just like that, you now control the entire southern portion of what used to be France. From now on, you could invade the remnants of France, expand into other countries, or whatnot. By this point, you should have invaded and annexed six whole nations fairly quickly. Utilize this money to expand your army and industry and you should be good to go for a while.
Defense
This will only go over how to defend your territory, not how to potentially go on the offense later on.
If France, Italy, or any other threat begin preparing to invade you, and you don't have much time to build an industry, in this order:
- Use gun (constructing artillery).
- Build recruit centers.
- Build fortifications.
- Use any factory of your choice to sell to A.I. Nations for a quick buck.
- Use more gun (construct more artillery and recruit more units).
Repeat step five over and over again until the threat invades.
Utilize these advantages you have at your disposal:
- Mountainous and Semi-Mountainous terrain.
- The artillery you constructed.
- The fortifications you built.
- Entrenchment.
Due to Provence not having 10 cities or more, they can not capitulate unless all cities are taken. Using this information, defend your capital region (which is likely Marseille).
Trivia
- Provence was originally part of the releasable of Occitania, is historically Occitan, and is often included in maps of Occitania.
- As a result of the addition of Provence, Occitania lost about half of it's population and it's largest city, Marseille.
