Cosmic Wall

Cosmic Wall (コズミックウォール Kozumikkuu Wōru?) is the thirteenth and penultimate stage of the Dark story Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, and is the last stage playable as Dr. Eggman.

Description

The stage takes place in the outer portion of the Space Colony ARK.

Story

When Eggman's detector senses two Chaos Emeralds belonging to Sonic and his friends, which included Tails' fake one, Eggman climbs in his Eggwalker and sets out to the Space Colony ARK to confront Sonic. He captures Amy on the way and then blackmails Sonic into giving him the Emerald in exchange for Amy's life. He then encapsulates Sonic who attempts to give him the fake Emerald and sets the capsule to explode in space, before bargaining with Tails to give him the real Emerald in exchange for their lives. Tails, believing Sonic has died, is angered and instead fights Eggman to avenge Sonic.

Gameplay

Due to this stage's setting, there is lower gravity which causes the player to jump higher than usual, and even enables flight for a short amount of time while Hovering. There are also portions of the stage where the Eggwalker is placed on a transport system that restricts its movements. Near the end of the stage, Dr. Eggman finds a cylindrical mechanism closing in on the transport he is on that he must shoot at to slow the progress.

The large amount of G.U.N. robots and passive objects make point collection easy, making the stage one of the easiest stages to earn an A-Rank in the Dreamcast version. Later ports of the game would increase the score requirements to get high Ranks here.

Overview

1st Mission: Get and confront the trespassers!

2nd Mission: Collect 100 rings!

There is an abundance of Rings in this stage. As such, if the player grabs each one as they go, collecting 100 Rings in under a minute and thirty seconds should not be too difficult.

3rd Mission: Find the lost Chao!

First, the player should Hover to the catwalk above the second Point Marker and destroy the pyramid atop the platform on the right to reveal the Ancient Ruin, then play the Mystic Melody to make a Spring appear. This Spring can bounce the player to the first of many platforms that must be navigated. The player should keep going up in the direction of the arrow signs, and eventually, they will reach a ledge with another platform. Here, the lost Chao can be found inside the pyramid.

4th Mission: Reach the goal within 8 minutes 0 seconds!

The player can bypass many intermediate platforms by Hovering, but they must be sure to free-fall straight down the shafts rather than Hover and risk messing with enemies.

Last Mission: Clear Hard mode!

There are a lot more enemies in this mission, and they require quite a bit proficiency to deal with. The cylindrical mechanism that chases the transport Dr. Eggman uses at the end of the stage is significantly faster in this mode.

Level Up Item

The Level Up Item found in Cosmic wall is the Protective Armor, which increases Dr. Eggman's maximum health.

It can be found under a platform after the FIRST drop location. The player must use the missile to break the cages that house this Level Up Item.

Chao Container locations

  1. After the second Point Marker, the first Chao Container can be found inside the pyramid on the right of the next platform, close to the Ancient Ruin.
  2. The second Chao Container can be found near the fourth Point Marker.
  3. In the room that comes after the seventh Point Marker, the third Chao Container can be found in the back of said room.

Animals

Big the Cat sighting

When boarding the final rail ride, the first platform the player passes under will be one with laser turrets on it. At this point, Big can be spotted directly above the player, hiding behind a laser turret.

Trivia

  • Cosmic Wall is notable for having the highest score requirements for an A-Rank of any stage on non-Dreamcast versions of the game, with Hard Mode requiring at least 100,000 points to get an A-Rank. It is also the only stage to have its score requirements changed in the non-Dreamcast versions.
    • This also happens to be the only level in which the player is even able to score over 100,000 points through conventional means (as Eternal Engine allows you to score infinite combo points, and there is an infinite point glitch that can be exploited in other mech stages).
  • This is the only stage in the game where gravity is heavily reduced, as well as the only shooting stage to feature a chase sequence.
  • At eight minutes Cosmic Wall has the highest time limit of any level's Mission 4 objective, with Cannon's Core being the only other level with a time limit beyond five minutes at seven. That said Cannon's Core is a longer level by length as Cosmic Wall's time limit is enforced primarily due to the transport rail sections forcing a fixed pace.
  • Aside from including the scene where Dr. Eggman holds Amy hostage and forces her to divulge Sonic and Tails' location, the scene that led into the boss fight with Tails cut out the scene where Sonic considers using the fake Chaos Emerald to escape from his predicament via Chaos Control, presumably to avoid giving away that Sonic survived.
  • In the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network remasters, grabbing the Chao Key is quite dangerous, as it is very common to be sent into a Test Level instead of the Chao Garden. The only way to escape is to pause and exit the game.
