Description

The Lead Boss is a large enemy which appears only on Hardcore mode. It has high health for its debut, but is quite slow while it has full metal coverings. As it is a lead enemy, it cannot be damaged by towers without lead detection.

The Lead Boss loses its metal coverings based on how much damage it received, and how many times it was damaged. Because of this, the Lead Boss can lose its metal coverings at different times depending on what towers are damaging it. After its health drops below 80-151 health (depending on how the metal coverings are destroyed), enough of its coverings would have been destroyed so that the Lead Boss loses its Lead properties and thus can be attacked by all towers and units. As more and more metal coverings are destroyed, the Lead Boss speeds up. After its health drops below 30-121 health, all of its metal coverings would have been removed and it would have become significantly faster than before.

The Lead Boss can be spawned by the Grave Digger in Hardcore mode. The Mystery and Mystery Boss can also spawn the Lead Boss upon their deaths in Hardcore mode.

Appearance

The current Lead Boss is similar to the first version, however when it is exposed, it is faceless instead.

The original Lead Boss was completely metal-plated from its head to its legs. After more damage was dealt to the Lead Boss, some of the metal covering was destroyed. After enough damage has been done, the Lead Boss was exposed. It had blue skin, and its torso and legs were brown. It had a drooling zombie face and is larger than the Abnormal.

Strategy

  • Like the Abnormal Boss, the Lead Boss is a major spike in health compared to previous enemies, and additional defense is necessary.
    • Lead detection is required to take this boss down. The Golden Pyromancer is a good option, and multiple Level 1 Trappers can also be effective, as well as a Level 3 Golden Scout.
      • These are also the most effective options to deal with Lead Bosses that spawn from Mysteries early on.
    • A Level 2 Brawler can be effective at taking down the Lead Boss, but if you have additional defenses without lead detection, then one or two Level 0 should be able to take down its lead armor.
    • The Elf Camp's units deal low collision damage, but in the mid game Gift Bombers and Ripped Elves are effective to damage the Lead Boss.
    • The Level 1+ Pursuit is a cost effective option that can also detect flying enemies, though it might be too expensive early on in the game.
      • After the metal coverings have been removed, all towers can damage the Lead Boss. Towers like the Golden Scout or Ace Pilot are now more useful.
        • Be aware that the Lead Boss may get out of range of these towers before its metal coverings get removed.
    • Slowing towers like the Sledger, Frost Blaster or Electroshocker can be used, though the Freezer is unable to damage the Lead Boss. The Electroshocker, Warden, Frost Blaster, Cryomancer, Sledger and Toxic Gunner can damage the Lead Boss.
      • In particular, Level 3+ Wardens are very good against Lead Bosses as Wardens deal lots of damage and have lead detection, meaning they can kill Lead Bosses very quickly.
  • Mysteries are able to spawn the Lead Boss in huge numbers. Additional defense is even more important here, especially if the Lead Bosses from previous waves had proven troublesome.
    • Earlier hordes of Mystery spawned Lead Bosses should be dealt with using the same tactics above.
    • When in the mid game, towers like the Accelerator and Ranger become options and are fairly good at dealing with such hordes. The Commander and DJ Booth are also helpful.
      • Once the metal coverings are removed, all high DPS towers can be used.

Trivia

  • The Lead Boss may be a reference to the Lead Bloon in the Bloons Tower Defense series.
  • Without the metal covering its body, this enemy looks similar to the Zombegg and the Eggsplosive.
    • It also looks similar to the Speedy from Tower Battles.
