Krampus Frosthold

Event Content

Krampus Frosthold has been removed from the game as of the 31st of January 2024 as it was part of the Krampus' Revenge Event.
This page has been preserved for historical purposes.

Description

Krampus Frosthold was the event map for the Krampus' Revenge Event. Like other event maps, this map had a specialized wave structure with special enemies. Players started with a varying amount of cash, based on how many players there were in the match. Upon triumphing, players were rewarded with the Cryomancer. The rewards you received are based on how many waves you survived and if you won a match.

This map has the HP Locked modifier, which sets the base health to 200. It also has the All Paths modifier; as this map had four paths, the amount of enemies was quadrupled, excluding major bosses. Starting from the second stage, it also gained the Mutation modifier, which increases enemy health by 5% every wave after they have debuted. Enemies that debuted before the modifier was applied do not have their health increase until they spawn again.

This map had a unique system of giving players cash for killing or damaging enemies. You only got cash from them if they are killed, or in some cases, damaged by a specific amount of health. Additionally, the amount you got is a set amount of cash, which was not always equal to the enemy's health. In solo, you received 100% of the cash when an enemy is killed or you damage it enough. With each additional player, this decreased by 25%, which means that in a quad, you only got 25% of the cash. This amount was distributed between players based on how much damage they dealt. However, if a player had not dealt any damage, they would receive 12.5% of the enemy's full cash upon its death or when it was damaged enough, regardless of player count. If it is a decimal, it gets rounded up. For example, the Crying Angel gave Cash (Gameplay Currency)$100 when killed in solo, Cash (Gameplay Currency)$75 in duo, Cash (Gameplay Currency)$50 in trio and Cash (Gameplay Currency)$25 in quad between the players that damaged it. Players that did not damage it received Cash (Gameplay Currency)$12.5, which is rounded up to Cash (Gameplay Currency)$13.

Design & Path

Krampus Frosthold had three stages, all of which shared the same path layout, with all three stages having four paths. All three stages took place in a giant snow globe.

Phase 1

The first stage took place in a snow-blanketed town with Christmas and other holiday decor scattered around the houses and paths (gifts, string lights, snowfall etc.) Many of the houses had lights on in the windows suggesting that the town is inhabited by townsfolk celebrating the holidays. Additionally, there was a large Christmas tree in the center of the map with many icy cliffs nearby for cliff towers. The first stage occured from waves 0-9.

Phase 2

The second phase took place in a frozen-over outpost next to a stronghold that was taken over by Krampus and its army. There were empty scouting towers on the outskirts that towers could be placed on with the frozen ones being unstable. There were little lampposts near the end of the paths along with many medium to large sized wooden cabins and many snowed-over trees around the cliffs and edges of the map. Most of the map was covered in snow and ice. The second stage occured from waves 10-17.

Phase 3

The third phase occured in an enclosed ice stronghold with a giant gateway that appears to be a portal. Intense snowfall covered the map as well as the icy, ancient architecture with most of it being arches or beams consistent with the style of the modern era Gothic or Neoclassical architecture. The gateway was made of ice and a bright light is shine through it signifying that it was a portal. There were lots of icy platforms for towers and tall brick towers for cliff towers to be placed on. The third stage occured from waves 18-20.

Rewards

The game calculated how many Coin Coins and Experience EXP you received based on how many waves you survived and if the match was won. During periods of 50% more Experience EXP (08:00 UTC Friday – 08:00 UTC Sunday), any Experience EXP earned was multiplied by 1.5x. The VIP gamepass also multiplies any Experience EXP earned by 1.25x.

Any rewards that end in a decimal point were rounded down, no matter the first figure of the leading decimal.

Badges

There was also one badge which you could obtain when playing this map, which had additional rewards alongside the badge. It is:

Defeated Krampus' Revenge!
✖ UNOBTAINABLE
You won the Winter 2023 event and earned Cryomancer as a reward!

Rewards:
Cryomancer

Wave Structure

The formula for calculating wave bonus on each wave is:

(Cash (Gameplay Currency)$315 - ((Players - 1) * 35)) + Waves Completed × (Cash (Gameplay Currency)$135 - ((Players - 1) * 15))

The wave clear bonus appeared when every enemy from that wave was killed. It was 40% of the wave bonus in solo, while for duo, trio and quad it is 35%.

The waves in Krampus Frosthold could not be skipped. They followed these timings:

Waves Wave Timer
1-8 0:30
9
10-13 0:45
14-16 1:00
17
18 2:00
19 1:50
20

Enemies were split evenly between the four paths. The exception was major bosses, like Krampus, which can spawn on either of the middle two paths, which varied each match.

Bolded names indicates an enemy type's debut.

Strategy

  • Crowd control towers, like the Pyromancer or Mortar are very strong throughout the game to deal with the massive hordes that spawn in the map.
    • The Pyromancer can also be quite useful at reducing enemy defense.
  • As many enemies in this event have freeze immunity, it is not recommended to bring freezing towers, unless they have some other use other than freezing.
    • Do note that freeze immune enemies cannot have their defense dropped by freezing towers.
  • High DPS towers like the Accelerator and Engineer should be used to deal with most of the enemies.
    • The DJ Booth and Commander are useful for boosting the towers' range and firerate respectively.
    • The Medic's Cleansing ability is useful against the few enemies that can stun towers, mainly Krampus.
  • This map has two flying enemies, the Crying Angel and Sleigh.
    • The Mortar is a strong option against these enemies as they spawn in hordes, as well as being strong against all hordes in general. Its long range also ensures that these enemies do not leak.
      • It is advised to upgrade the Mortar to at least Level 4 for its cluster bombs.
      • Be aware that this map has very little cliff spots. The Mortars should be placed in a way that covers as little cliff space as possible.
    • The Executioner is strong for the same reasons the Mortar is, though with the added benefit of being a good option early game.
      • It is recommended to put it on farthest targeting, as it allows the axe to travel for longer.
    • The Ranger and Pursuit can also deal with these enemies, as well as having strong single-target damage against enemies like the Gatekeeper and Krampus.
  • Like most event maps, Farms do not generate any cash here, and is not recommended for this map.

Trivia

  • All of the enemies present on this map were returning enemies from the Christmas 2019 Event, Frost Invasion Event and Violent Night Event, with some receiving visual overhauls.
    • This map's second phase was also based on Outpost 32.
  • Although it was not the first map to change its design half way through the match, it is the first map to change a total of two times, resulting in a total of three stages.
  • It was the first map to cause players to play a special animation, which happens during stage transitions. During the map transition, the player floats up into the air.
  • Strangely, completing the map would count progress for any Triumph in GAMEMODE quest.
  • A cat could be seen under the Christmas tree in the first stage. This is a direct reference to the Maxwell cat meme.
  • During the second phase, two Snowies could be seen on the castle near the entrance of the map, with both of them having their own unique animations.
    • The Snowy in the right tower had eyes that do not glow.
  • Three more enemies were originally planned to be added as enemies in Krampus Frosthold.
    • The Frost Hero was initially a mini-boss for Wave 18, though it was removed.
    • Mecha-claus was planned to be added as a mini-boss though it was not added as the files for it could not be found.
    • The Frost Mystery was considered to be added as an enemy.
