Before the Gate Rune Wars, Juppo worked for Lepant designing machines to protect the mansion. When Tir encounters him while robbing Lepant's Mansion, Juppo agrees to disable the dolls and robots he created, although the large wheel is beyond even his ability to shut down despite having created it. Juppo apparently chooses to join the Liberation Army at this time as well and he contents himself with tinkering in the castle basement during the war. During the war, he encounters his niece, Meg, who tries to get him to teach her to be a trickster too. After the war, Juppo builds Gadget to assist Meg along, then departs on a journey to find a bigger trick.
Juppo has great magical ability, but because his Trick Rune is permanently attached, and because Suikoden only has one Rune slot per character, he cannot use any magic runes at all.
