The Wind Boost is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Boost Item used primarily to increase the user's speed.

Description

The Wind Boost takes the form of a swirling aura made of gray wind currents, both as an icon and on the tracks.

Overview

In gameplay, the Wind Boost can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Charmy, LEGO® Tails, Longclaw, Tails, Jet, Popstar Amy, Storm, Tropical Storm and Witch Rouge.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Wind Boost by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Wind Boost will increase the speed of the user for a short amount of time. The duration of the Wind Boost is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Wind Boost is in effect. In addition, any rival character who makes contact with the user while the Wind Boost is in effect will be left floating helplessly in the air temporarily while slowing down momentarily and also lose Rings. In addition, these affected characters will have their lost Rings transferred to the user of the Wind Boost.
