Once obtained, the player can utilize the Falling Sword by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the sword will appear above the user's next rival if the user is behind said rival. Regardless, the Falling Sword's sword will float in the air above its target for a few moments before coming down on them. If a rival character gets struck by the Falling Sword as it comes down, they will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily. To avoid the Falling Sword, the playable character has to step away from Excalibur before it locks onto its target.

The Falling Sword can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. When the user is upgraded to level 4 and 10, the Falling Sword will deal damage faster, and when the user is upgraded to level 16, the player will increase the damage dealt with the Falling Sword.
