Energy Cannon

The Energy Cannon is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Projectile Item used primarily to attack rivals.

Description

The Energy Cannon's icon takes Tails Nine's cannon with pink energy aura for firing.

Overview

In gameplay, the Energy Cannon can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Tails Nine. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Energy Cannon if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Energy Cannon by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the user fires several laser shots in a row, which will travel down the lane it was deployed on in front of the user until it hits either a rival character or obstacle, or it wears off. Rival characters that make contact with the Energy Cannon will take damage, causing them to lose Rings, stop moving for a moment, and lose a randomly item on the bottom of the HUD. To avoid the Energy Cannon, the playable character has to either step out of its lane or jump over it. Furthermore, the Energy Cannon has a time limit that determines how many shots it can produce. The duration of the Energy Cannon is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Energy Cannon is in effect. However, the Energy Cannon will end prematurely if the playable character takes damage while using it.

The Energy Cannon can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 6 and 12 respectively. When the user is upgraded to level 6, the player increases the damage of the Energy Cannon, and when the user is upgraded to level 12, the Energy Cannon will fire more shots during its duration.
