Phantom Dagger

Warp your opponent's reality with this quick-fire blade of Phantom Energy.

— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Phantom Dagger is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Projectile and Trap Item used primarily to attack rivals.

Description

The Phantom Dagger takes the form of Infinite's old sword during his time as the leader of the mercenary group, the Jackal Squad, with flaming Phantom Energy emanating from the blade.

Overview

In gameplay, the Phantom Dagger can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Warlock Infinite. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Phantom Dagger if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Phantom Dagger by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. Unlike other power-ups in Sonic Forces: Speed Battle however, the Tail Strike occupies two Item slots on the HUD: the Projectile Item slot on the left and the Trap Item slot on the right. When used, the user tosses the red dagger, which will travel down the lane it was deployed on in front of the user until it hits either a rival character or obstacle, or it wears off. Any rival character who collides with the dagger will take damage, thus causing them to lose Rings and stop moving for a moment. In addition, this power-up will temporarily apply a red filter with red energy cubes along the edges of the screen, replace all Item Boxes and Dash Panels with Spikes, and make Badniks indestructible to its victims. To avoid the Phantom Dagger, the player must either step out its lane or jump over it.

The Phantom Dagger can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 6, 10, 12 and 16 respectively. When the user is upgraded to level 4 and 6, the greater chance to pick up two Phantom Daggers from an Item Box, and when the user is upgraded to level 10, 12 and 16, the greater chance to pick up three Phantom Daggers from an Item Box.

However, different levels will affect different Item slots; upgrading the character to levels 4, 10, and 16 will only affect probability of getting more of the Phantom Dagger in the Trap Item slot, and upgrading to levels 6 and 12 will only affect probability of getting more of the Phantom Dagger in the Projectile Item slot.
