The Magical Boost is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Boost Item used primarily to increase the user's speed.

Description

The Magical Boost's icon takes the form of a rainbow-colored, cone-shaped aura with a flower-like pattern on the front and rainbow-colored rings around its aura trail. In gameplay, this power-up becomes a white aura around the user with a pink, light blue and yellow color trail released in their slipstream.

Overview

In gameplay, the Magical Boost can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Unicorn Cream and Unicorn Knight Cream.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Magical Boost by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Magical Boost will increase the speed of the user for a short amount of time. The duration of the Magical Boost is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Magical Boost is in effect. While the Magical Boost cannot damage rivals that makes contact with the user while the Magical Boost is in effect, the user will drop a number of full-circle rainbows behind them as they move forward during the Magical Boost. These rainbow will then set themselves permanently on the spot on the lane they were dropped on for the duration of the race. If a rival character collides with said rainbows, the player's screen will temporarily be obscured by a bright light. To avoid the Magical Boost's rainbows, the player's character has to step out of their lanes or slide underneath them.

The Magical Boost can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 2, 8 and 14 respectively. For each upgrade, the Magical Boost will last longer.
