The Ring Portal is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Boost Item used primarily to increase the user's speed.

Description

The Ring Portal's icon takes the form of a giant golden Ring with a shimmering center. In gameplay, this power-up creates a portal the user passes through, which turns them invisible for a while sparkles surround them until they emerge from the portal again.

Overview

In gameplay, the Ring Portal can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Movie Sonic and Movie Knuckles.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Ring Portal by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Ring Portal will increase the speed of the user for a short amount of time. In addition, while the Ring Portal is active, the user becomes invisible and invulnerable to most obstacles and offensive power-ups from rivals, but they are still susceptible to falling into bottomless pits. Despite on travelling through the portal, the user can also collect Rings, Item Boxes, as well as destroy Badniks like most of Invincible power-ups. The duration of the Ring Portal is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Ring Portal is in effect.
