The digitized state^[1]^[2] is a condition that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is an affliction caused by get trapped in the Ancients' Cyber Space and then being freed from a Cyber Cage, being half in the real world, and half in Cyber Space.

Description

The digitized state is when the victim's body is half inside Cyber Space, and half in the real world. It gives their body a glitchy ghost-like effect that keeps them from being touched, touching other people and touching things in the real world. It also gives their voice a walkie-talkie-like effect. The victim can be freed via all four towers on Rhea Island being activated, or The End's destruction, where their full body is teleported back to the real world and is normal as it was before.

When in a digitized state, the victim’s body becomes unstable, which makes them impossible to communicate with by normal means. In order to communicate with someone in a digitized state, the player must collect a sufficient amount of Memory Tokens scattered across the Starfall Islands in order to stabilize their state. Once enough Memory Tokens are collected and given to the victim they will be stabilized for a short period of time before once again becoming unstable. (Note that it is unclear whether this is an actual side effect of the state or purely a gameplay mechanic.)

Powers and abilities

When someone is in a digitized state, they possess the ability to fly for a short amount of time and can help reinforce digital shields made by Sage. Though the victim's ability to interact with the real word is limited, they still hold certain items like Amy's Piko Piko Hammer, and can summon objects like Tails' Cyclone, although they can not use said items to their fullest extent. The victim can also interact with Guardians as well as other objects around the Starfall Islands.
